The Roswell Invaders are a professional baseball team based in Roswell, New Mexico. The Invaders are a franchise of the Pecos League, which is not affiliated with Major or Minor League Baseball.

Contents

In May 2011, professional baseball returned to Roswell for the first time since 1959. Three months and 74 games later, the Invaders brought the city its first ever pro baseball title with a 4–2 victory over Ruidoso.

Roswell is a city in, and the seat of, Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Chaves County forms the entirety of the Roswell micropolitan area. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 48,422, making it the fifth-largest city in New Mexico. It is home of the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), founded in 1891. The city is also the location of an Eastern New Mexico University campus. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located a few miles northeast of the city on the Pecos River. Nap Rucker American baseball player

George Napoleon "Nap" Rucker was a sportsperson and politician from Georgia. Rucker was a left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Brooklyn Superbas/Dodgers/Robins. Over his 10 seasons, Rucker lead the league in Shutouts, Complete Game, and Innings Pitched throughout his career. On September 5, 1908, Rucker became the first left-handed pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Dodger history.

Tony Phillips American baseball player

Keith Anthony Phillips was an American professional baseball utility player who had an 18-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career from 1982 to 1999. In addition, Phillips showed his versatility with over 100 game appearances in the outfield corners and as a designated hitter.

Joe Willis Bauman was an American first baseman in professional baseball who played primarily in the low minor leagues. He is best remembered for his time with the Roswell Rockets of the Class C Longhorn League, for whom he hit 72 home runs in 1954, setting a professional baseball record that stood until 2001. Born in Welch, Oklahoma, he threw and batted left-handed, stood 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) tall and weighed 235 pounds (107 kg).

Roswell High School (Georgia) Public school in Roswell, Georgia, United States

Roswell High School (RHS) is a public high school in Roswell, Georgia, United States which opened in 1949. It serves the entire city of Roswell west of Georgia State Route 400 and the city of Mountain Park, as well as small portions of Alpharetta and Milton. With a population of over of 2,221 students in the 2018–19 school year, RHS is one of the largest schools in the Fulton County School System. Roswell High School neighbors both Fellowship Christian School and Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. It is also the second oldest of Fulton County's schools in the northern portion of the county, opening between Milton High School (1921), and Chattahoochee High School (1991). Roswell is currently on its third campus, which opened in 1990. The current building is the oldest in-use high school building in north Fulton.

Roswell Recreation and Parks

The Roswell Recreation and Parks is a municipal department serving the city of Roswell, Georgia. It oversees eight public-use parks covering over 900 acres and sponsors over 25 athletic programs ranging from soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and swimming for all age groups. It has been recognized as one of the top civic recreation programs in the United States. The Roswell Recreations Department also works closely with local middle and high schools by providing practice fields.

The Sophomore League was a Class D level minor league baseball league that operated from 1958 through 1961. League franchises were located in New Mexico and Texas. The league evolved from the Southwestern League, which played in 1956 and 1957. The name change was part of a systemic change. The circuit went from being one with almost no ties to major league baseball to a league where every team was a minor league affiliate of a major league team.

The West Texas–New Mexico League was a minor league baseball league that operated from 1937 through 1955, with a hiatus during World War II. The league was not active in 1943–1945 because of World War II. The league started as a Class D level league, upgraded to Class C in 1946 and then a final advancement to Class B level status in 1955. League franchises were based exclusively in New Mexico and Texas.

The World Baseball Challenge is an international baseball competition based in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. The tournament was established in 2002 by Larry Seminoff, who is also the founder of the Grand Forks International.

The Longhorn League was the name of a Minor league baseball circuit that operated from 1947 through 1955 in the Southwestern United States. In 1956, it was renamed the Southwestern League and operated through 1957 before changing its name to the Sophomore League. Joe Bauman hit 72 home runs in 1954 to set the minor league record, while playing for the Roswell Rockets.

Pecos League US professional baseball league

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is an independent professional baseball league headquartered in Houston, which operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas and Texas. The league plays in cities that do not have Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball teams and is not affiliated with either.

The San Angelo Pirates were a class-D minor league baseball, club based in San Angelo, Texas. The team first played in 1958 and partially during the following season. On June 9, 1959, the Pirates moved to Roswell, New Mexico to become the Roswell Pirates. In 1959, the San Angelo/Roswell Pirates was the first professional team to feature Willie Stargell, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1988. Stargell hit .274 with 7 homeruns and 87 RBI in 118 games with the team.

Tucson Saguaros Professional baseball team

The Tucson Saguaros are a professional baseball team based in Tucson, Arizona, that began play in 2016. The club is a member of the Pecos League, an independent baseball league which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball.

Minor league baseball teams were based in Roswell, New Mexico in various seasons between 1923 and 1959, before resuming play in 2011. Roswell teams played as members of the Panhandle-Pecos Valley League in 1923, West Texas–New Mexico League in 1937, Longhorn League from 1949 to 1955, Southwestern League in 1956, Sophomore League in 1959 and Pecos League from 2011 to present.

The 2022 Pecos League season is an ongoing baseball season and is the 12th season of professional baseball in the Pecos League, an independent baseball league which operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas and Texas, since its creation in August 2010. There are 16 Pecos League teams, split evenly between Mountain and Pacific divisions.
