Ruislip High School is a secondary comprehensive school in Ruislip, within the London Borough of Hillingdon. The school opened to a single intake of Year 7 pupils in September 2006, and was officially opened in a ceremony in March 2007. The school's first GCSE results were released in August 2011, by which time the school had reached being five-form entry.

History

The process of planning for a new school began in January 2005 when a group of architects and designers were selected to form a design. [1] Miller Construction Ltd was chosen in May of the same year to commence work on the site, which was required to prepare the greenfield land for the development. [2] The school was designed by the architects Scott Brownrigg, using various methods to reduce the school's energy consumption. [3]

The school opened to a single intake of Year 7 pupils in September 2006, [1] and was officially opened on 21 March 2007 with a ceremony including the burial of a time-capsule in the school grounds. [4]

Following the end of the 2010/11 academic year, the school's first headteacher, John Goulborn, announced his retirement. [5] At the same time, the school received an "outstanding" rating from Ofsted, from an inspection carried out earlier in the year. This was the second time the school had been awarded the rating since opening. [6] In August 2011, the school recorded 81% of students achieving at least five A* to C grades in their GCSEs, excluding English and Mathematics. This came from a total of 151 students entered into the examinations. [7]

Professor Heinz Wolff gave a speech at Ruislip High's first presentation evening, on 16 November 2011. [8]

Previously a community school administered by Hillingdon London Borough Council, Ruislip High School converted to academy status in April 2014. However the school continues to coordinate with Hillingdon London Borough Council for admissions.

Appearance in The Inbetweeners

Ruislip High represents the fictional school "Rudge Park Comprehensive" from The Inbetweeners television series, which began in 2008, [9] and The Inbetweeners Movie. [10]

Nearby are the remains of a motte-and-bailey castle believed to date from shortly after the Norman conquest of England. Original groundwork on the site has been dated to the 9th century.

Highgrove House, also known as High Grove House or High Grove, is a Grade II listed mansion in the suburban area of Eastcote, within the London Borough of Hillingdon. Originally built in 1750 by the Reverend John Lidgould, the house was rebuilt in 1881 by Sir Hugh Hume-Campbell following a catastrophic fire. Along with Haydon Hall and Eastcote House, Highgrove was one of the three main houses of Eastcote and eventually became a residential hostel for homeless families, run by the local council from the 1960s until 2007. An area of the estate was sold to the local council in 1935 by the then-owner Eleanor Warrender to become what is now Warrender Park. In 1975, the house was granted Grade II listed status on account of its special architectural character.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Eastcote House Gardens</span>

Eastcote House Gardens is an area of public parkland in Eastcote, within the London Borough of Hillingdon. The site covers 3.63 hectares and incorporates the walled garden, dovecote and coach house of Eastcote House. The house was demolished in 1964 by the then Ruislip-Northwood Urban District Council (RNUDC), one of the predecessors of the London Borough of Hillingdon which was formed the following year. At the public's request, the garden and outbuildings were retained and are now maintained by a group of volunteers, the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens, in partnership with the local authority.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">The Chimes, Uxbridge</span> Shopping mall in Greater London, England

The Chimes is a shopping centre in Uxbridge, within the London Borough of Hillingdon, owned by the Malaysian pension fund Kumpulan Persaan. Opened in February 2001, the centre includes 71 stores, cafes and restaurants, including Boots, H&M and Next as anchor stores. A multi-screen Odeon cinema with an IMAX screen is also part of the centre. A number of existing old buildings in Uxbridge High Street were restored and incorporated into the new shopping centre, which was designed with the intention of it blending into its surroundings.
