Ruth Briggs King (born March 8,1956) is an American politician. A Republican,she served as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives,representing district 37,from 2009 to 2023. [1] In 2024,she ran for lieutenant governor but lost to Democratic nominee Kyle Evans Gay in the general election.
Briggs King earned her AA in medical technology from Delaware Technical Community College and her BA and MA in human resources from Wilmington College.
Briggs King first ran for office in 2009,losing in the Republican primary to represent district 41 in the Delaware House of Representatives. She was subsequently elected in 2009 to replace Republican Joseph Booth,who had won a special election for the Delaware Senate. [2] She resigned from the House in November 2023. [3] In May 2024,she announced her candidacy for lieutenant governor of Delaware. [4] In the November general election,she lost to Democratic nominee Kyle Evans Gay,earning 44.8% of the vote. [5] [6]
Briggs King has worked as a human resources consultant for Workforce Solutions since 2019. [2] [1] She is married to Stanley King,and they have two sons. [7]
Terry R. Spence is an American politician from New Castle,Delaware. He is a member of the Republican Party,who served in the Delaware General Assembly and as Speaker of the Delaware House of Representatives. He was defeated in the 2008 election by Democrat Michael A. Barbieri and lost an attempt to regain his seat in 2010. Though a social conservative,Spence's representation of his middle class and union voters in his district often put him at odds with other Republican Party leaders. The Democratic primary was held on September 10,in which state senator Kyle Evans Gay won the nomination. As Ruth Briggs King was the only Republican candidate who qualified,the Republican primary was cancelled.
