Ruth Briggs King (born March 8,1956) is an American politician. A Republican,she served as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives,representing district 37,from 2009 to 2023. [1] In May 2024,she announced her candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Delaware. [2]
Briggs King earned her AA in medical technology from Delaware Technical Community College and her BA and MA in human resources from Wilmington College.
Briggs King first ran for office in 2009,losing in the Republican primary to represent district 41 in the Delaware House of Representatives. She was subsequently elected in 2009 to replace Republican Joseph Booth,who had won a special election for the Delaware Senate. [3] She resigned from the House in November 2023. [4] In May 2024,she announced her candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Delaware. [5]
Briggs King has worked as a human resources consultant for Workforce Solutions since 2019. [3] [1] She is married to Stanley King,and they have two sons. [6]
Peter C. Schwartzkopf is an American politician and former Speaker of the Delaware House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party,he has represented the 14th district since 2002. His district covers Rehoboth Beach,Lewes,and Dewey Beach in Sussex County. Prior to his election to the House,he was a state police officer.
William Charles Paradee III is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Delaware Senate representing district 17. He was a member of the Delaware House of Representatives from 2012 to 2018. Paradee earned a BA in English and an MBA from the University of Delaware.
Andria L. Bennett is an American politician. She was a Democratic member of the Delaware House of Representatives,representing District 32. She was elected in 2012 to replace her husband,Brad Bennett,who had decided not to seek reelection after a second arrest for drunk driving. Bennett was formerly an adjunct faculty member at Delaware Technical Community College.

Incumbent Democratic Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term in office;she instead unsuccessfully ran for governor. The Democratic primary was held on September 10,in which state senator Kyle Evans Gay won the nomination. As Ruth Briggs King was the only Republican candidate who qualified,the Republican primary was cancelled.
