Floor crossing was a system introduced to the post-apartheid South African political system in 2002, under which members of Parliament, members of provincial legislatures and local government councillors could change political party and take their seats with them when they did so. Floor crossing in South Africa was abolished in January 2009.
Sheilla Tembalam Xego is a South African politician, educator and trade unionist from the Eastern Cape who has been a member of the National Assembly since 2011. Prior to entering parliament, she was a councillor of the Mbhashe Local Municipality from 2000 to 2006 and the Amathole District Municipality from 2006 to 2010. Xego is a member of the African National Congress.
Free State is one of the nine multi-member constituencies of the National Assembly of South Africa, the lower house of the Parliament of South Africa, the national legislature of South Africa. The constituency was established as Orange Free State in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It was renamed Free State in 1999. It is conterminous with the province of Free State. The constituency currently elects 11 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 1,462,508 registered electors.

She is a former Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from the Free State. Mahlatsi is a member of the African National Congress.

A member of the African National Congress, she has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Ntobongwana had previously served in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature.
Motshidisi Agnes Koloi, also spelled Motshidise, is a South African politician and educator who is currently serving as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development in the Free State provincial government. Before that, she was MEC for Public Works and Human Settlements. She has served in the Free State Provincial Legislature as an ANC representative since May 2019. Prior to her election to the Provincial Legislature, Koloi had served as the executive mayor of the Moqhaka Local Municipality.
Mahlodi Caroline Mahasela is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. She was the first female Mayor of Musina Local Municipality from 2006 to 2011.
Modise Casalis "Casca" Mokitlane is a former politician and diplomat from South Africa who served in the Free State Provincial Legislature from 1999 until 2014. He is a former Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) and is known for his short-lived defection to the opposition Congress of the People (COPE) between 2009 and 2014.
Fundiswa "Fezi" Ngubentombi was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State Provincial Legislature from 2009 until her death in 2012. During that time, she served as the Free State's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works and Rural Development from 2009 to 2011 and then as MEC for Health from 2011 to 2012. A former teacher, she also served as Mayor of Metsimaholo Local Municipality from 2006 to 2009.

Between 1994 and 2009, she served almost continuously in the Free State Executive Council and held several different portfolios, including as the Free State's inaugural Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Housing from 1994.
Hlengiwe Christophina Mgabadeli is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2004 to 2014. During her second term in the assembly, from 2009 to 2014, she represented the KwaZulu-Natal constituency and chaired Parliament's Joint Standing Committee on Defence.
Mandu Mildred Ramakaba-Lesiea is a South African politician and veteran of the African National Congress (ANC), which she joined in 1954. After the end of apartheid in 1994, she represented the ANC in the National Assembly from 1998 to 2004.
Nonhlanhla Claribel Nkabinde is a South African politician who represented the United Democratic Movement (UDM) in the National Assembly from 2004 to 2009. She was elected to her seat in the 2004 general election.
Nkosinathi Benson Fihla is a South African politician and former anti-apartheid activist who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2013. He subsequently served as Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality from March 2013 until May 2015. Fihla first joined the ANC in 1954 through its Youth League and he was imprisoned on Robben Island from 1964 to 1978 for his work with Umkhonto we Sizwe.
Christopher Lancaster Gololo is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2004 to 2014. He joined the ANC in exile in 1977 during apartheid.
Nomatyala Elizabeth Hangana is a South African politician who served as Deputy Minister of Provincial and Local Government from April 2004 to May 2009. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009, excepting a hiatus from 2001 to 2004 when she served in the Western Cape Executive Council. She was a former Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Women's League in the Western Cape.
Nomakhaya Mavis Mdaka is a South African politician who served in the National Assembly from 2004 to 2014, representing variously the United Democratic Movement (UDM), the United Independent Front (UIF), and the African National Congress (ANC). She defected from the UDM to the UIF during the floor-crossing period of 2005 and then from the UIF to the ANC during the floor-crossing period of 2007. After she resigned from the National Assembly in November 2014, Mdaka joined the African Transformation Movement (ATM).
