The Rwanda women's national volleyball team represents Rwanda in international women's volleyball competitions and friendly matches. [1]
The team qualified for the 2001, 2007 and 2021 events of the Women's African Volleyball Championship.
In 2008 the team, it was reported, tried to recruit Kenyan coach Paul Bitok to be their national coach, but he turned down the offer to go to Budapest to learn more about sports coaching. Bitok then returned to Rwanda where he introduced training from an early age. Camps were established in the provinces where young players could be developed. When he left in 2020 Rwanda had teams competing internationally in every age category and the national team were the champions of Africa. [2]

Charles Frederick "Karch" Kiraly is an American volleyball player, coach and broadcast announcer. In the 1980s he was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. He is the only player to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. He played college volleyball for the UCLA Bruins, where his teams won three national championships under head coach Al Scates.

The Rwanda women's national football team represents Rwanda in women's association football and is controlled by the Rwandese Association Football Federation. It had to date been scheduled to compete in one major tournament, the inaugural Women's Challenge Cup held in Zanzibar in October 2007, but the event was ultimately canceled. It has finally debuted in February 2014 against Kenya. The team is nicknamed The She-Amavubi.

In Rwanda, sport is supported by the government's Sports Development Policy of October 2012. This argues that sport has a number of benefits, including bringing people together, improving national pride and unity, and improving health. The policy identifies challenges to the development of sport in the country, including limited infrastructure and financial capacity. It sets the "inspirational target" that, by 2020, Rwanda should have "a higher percentage of population playing sport than in any other African nation" and be ranked amongst the top three African countries in basketball, volleyball, cycling, athletics and Paralympic sports, and the top ten in football. It also aims to "foster increased participation of people in traditional sports". According to research published by the University of the Western Cape's Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Sport Science and Development, the most popular sports in Rwanda are association football, volleyball, basketball, athletics and Paralympic sports.

Mercy Moim is a Kenyan volleyball player. She played with the Kenya national team in the 2010 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship. She was team captain for the postponed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Brackcides Agala Khadambi is a Kenyan female volleyball player. She was captain of the Kenya women's national volleyball team and she competed in beach volleyball at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Nada Meawad is an Egyptian indoor and beach volleyball player, a member of the Egypt women's national volleyball team. She made her international debut when she was 15 years old on the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship in Thailand. She started playing in El Shams Club at the age of five years old. Nada Meawad and her teammate Doaa Elghobashy were the first ever African team to take part in the FIVB beach volleyball Olympic Games in 2016. She is a Five-time AVCA First Team All-American and Three-time NAIA Player of the Year 2018, 2020 and 2021 while playing college volleyball at Park University.
Paul Bitok is a Kenyan volleyball player and coach who lead the women's national team in Rwanda. He is the head coach of the Kenya women's national volleyball team which qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics, although before their first match Brazilian coach Luizomar de Moura was announced as Kenya's head volleyball coach.
The 2021 Men's African Nations Volleyball Championship was the 23rd edition of the Men's African Volleyball Championship, a biennial international volleyball tournament organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) with Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB). The tournament was held in Kigali, Rwanda from 7 to 14 September 2021. The top two teams of the tournament qualified for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship as the CAVB representatives.
The 2021 Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship is the 20th edition of the Women's African Volleyball Championship, a biennial international volleyball tournament organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) with Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB). The tournament is held in Kigali, Rwanda from 12 to 20 September 2021. The top two teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship as the CAVB representatives.
