Ryan Daniel Doherty (born February 2, 1984) [2] is an American professional beach volleyball player.
Doherty, who was born and raised in Toms River, New Jersey, [2] grew up playing baseball, including at Toms River High School East. [3] He was named the 2002 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of New Jersey. [4] In 2002, he was named an All-American. [5]
and was awarded a partial scholarship to play baseball at the University of Notre Dame. [6] He is believed to have been the tallest player in the history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association baseball history. [7] While at Notre Dame, he did not play collegiate volleyball due to his baseball commitments.
Doherty forgoed his senior season of college baseball and signed as a free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks in June 2005. [8] [9] He became the first seven-foot-tall player in Minor League Baseball history when he played for the Yakima Bears in 2005. [10] He moved up one minor league level the next two seasons, playing for the Single-A South Bend Silver Hawks in 2006 and the High-A Visalia Oaks in 2007. The Diamondbacks released Doherty in 2007, after just three appearances with Visalia. In his professional baseball career, he had a 12–4 record as a relief pitcher, with 6 saves and a 2.83 earned run average. [11]

After his release from minor league baseball, Doherty moved to South Carolina and took up beach volleyball with Steve Johnson. [12] Shortly afterward he decided to pursue a professional career and moved to Huntington Beach, California. [12] He turned professional in 2010, competing in four events on the 2010 AVP Pro Beach Tour. Casey Patterson became his regular partner in 2012. [3] They paired together to win the 2012 National Volleyball League Preakness event in Baltimore over highly ranked Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers. [13]
In 2013, Doherty teamed up with Todd Rogers and began to compete not only in the domestic AVP Tour, but also internationally in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour and NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit. [14] Despite a number of top-five finishes, the Rogers/Doherty combination never placed first in a competition.
Starting with the October 2013 São Paulo Grand Slam on the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, Doherty had switched partners to Nick Lucena. [15]
In the 2015 AVP season, Doherty played with Pepperdine alum John Mayer. [16]

Founded in 1983, the AVP is headquartered in Newport Beach, California. The AVP operates as a 3-tiered development system with AVPFirst, a youth program; AVPNext, a developmental circuit; and the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour itself.
Philip Peter Dalhausser is an American former professional beach volleyball player, who played as a blocker. He and his former playing partner, Todd Rogers, were the 2007 AVP Tour and FIVB world champions.
Jacob Spiker Gibb is an American professional beach volleyball player, who currently plays on the AVP Tour with Taylor Crabb as his partner. Gibb and Casey Patterson represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Previously, Gibb and Sean Rosenthal played together from 2006 to 2012. The duo represented Team USA at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
Todd Jonathan Rogers is an American professional beach volleyball player who is an Olympic and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship gold medalist. He and his former partner, Phil Dalhausser, were the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 AVP Tour champions.
John Hyden is an American volleyball and beach volleyball player. Raised in San Diego, California, where he attended Mt. Carmel High School, Hyden was a member of the United States men's national volleyball team that finished in ninth place at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, he finished in 11th place with the national team.
Sean Michael Rosenthal is an American beach volleyball player, playing as a defender. He is best known for his high leaping ability, which has earned him the nickname of "Superman". Rosenthal has an entourage called "Rosie's Raiders", which is composed of close friends of his who enjoy going to his various tournaments to support him. He and his former partner, Jake Gibb, represented the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games and 2012 Olympic Games in beach volleyball.

April Elizabeth Ross is an American beach volleyball player and three-time Olympic medalist. She won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Jennifer Kessy, a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics with Kerri Walsh Jennings, and a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics with Alix Klineman. Ross and Kessy were also the 2009 Beach Volleyball World Champions.
Alison Conte Cerutti is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a blocker. In 2011, along with Emanuel Rego he won the Swatch FIVB World Tour in Prague, Czech Republic. and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships in Netherlands. and the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio alongside teammate Bruno Schmidt. In 2019, Alison partnered with Álvaro Morais Filho. The team won their first gold medal at the FIVB Kuala Lumpur event. The duo also competed in the Tokyo 2020 journey. Since 2021 Alison has been playing with Guto Carvalhaes.
Alexandra Rose "Alix" Klineman is an American beach volleyball player, 2020 Summer Olympics gold medalist, and former indoor volleyball player.
Theodore Allan Brunner is an American professional beach volleyball player who is a member of the United States men's national A2 beach volleyball team and has also featured for the United States men's national A2 volleyball team.

Pavin Joe Smith is an American professional baseball first baseman and right fielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Virginia Cavaliers. The Diamondbacks selected Smith in the 2017 MLB draft and he made his MLB debut in 2020.
Nicholas Lucena is an American retired professional beach volleyball player. Lucena grew up in Davie, Florida and played indoor volleyball at Western High School. In his youth, he played beach volleyball at Fort Lauderdale Beach. He then went to Florida State University, where he graduated before embarking on his beach volleyball career.
Sara Elizabeth Hughes is an American beach volleyball player. With teammate Kelly Cheng she achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in August 2023. Hughes has won six tournaments on the AVP Pro Tour and seven gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour/Pro Beach Tour.
