Philip Peter Dalhausser (born January 26, 1980) is an American former professional beach volleyball player, who played as a blocker. [1] He and his former playing partner, Todd Rogers, were the 2007 AVP Tour and FIVB world champions.
Dalhausser and Rogers dominated both the domestic US tour and now the FIVB international tour, winning #1 team honors on both tours in 2010. Dalhausser and Rogers were Olympic gold medalists at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.
In 2023, Dalhausser was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. [2]
Dalhausser was born in Baden, Aargau, Switzerland, to a German father, Peter, and a Swiss mother, Marianne. He now calls his hometown Lake Nona, Florida. He attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. Dalhausser did not start playing volleyball until his senior year in high school.
He attended the University of Central Florida and joined Lambda Chi Alpha, where he was named "Most Valuable Player" and received the William G. Morgan Award for most outstanding player. He earned a business degree at UCF and played for the club volleyball team. [3] After college, he worked for a concrete company and then worked a short time for a firm that painted stripes on Florida highways. [4]
In 2011, Dalhausser married Jennifer Corral, who was also a professional beach volleyball player. The couple have two children. [5]
Dalhausser has previously teamed up with Nick Lucena.
At 6'9" (206 cm), Dalhausser led the 2005–2010 AVP tour in blocks. In 2005, he was sixth in kill percentage. [3]
In 2006, Dalhausser teamed up with Todd Rogers. Rogers, an 11-year veteran of professional beach volleyball, thought he needed someone to help him get to the next level and believed Dalhausser had the potential to become the best player in the world. Rogers plays two roles, both partner and coach to Dalhausser. [6]
In 2007, Dalhausser and Rogers won the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Gstaad, Switzerland, becoming the first U.S. beach team to win the gold medal at the tournament.
Dalhausser qualified for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics to represent the United States with his teammate Todd Rogers by being the top seeded American team through the international qualification process.
Dalhausser and Rogers had a record of 6–1 in their first Olympics, being upset in their opening match by 23rd-ranked Latvia. [7] They proceeded to win the rest of their games, coming back from 6–0 in the third set to beat 20th-seeded Switzerland.
Dalhausser and Rogers won the gold medal match two sets to one against Márcio Araújo and Fabio Luiz Magalhães of Brazil. Newly crowned women's beach volleyball champions and compatriots Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh were watching from the stands in the final. Dalhausser made nine blocks in the championship match, with five coming in the deciding third set, putting the US up to a 9–1 lead and eventually winning it 15–4. Dalhausser was named tournament MVP. This made the United States the only country to win gold medals in men's and women's beach volleyball at the same Olympics. [6]
Dalhausser and Rogers failed to defend their gold medal at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The pair was ousted in the round of 16 by the young Italian team of Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo, losing in straight sets for the first time in their Olympic careers.
Dalhausser paired up with Nick Lucena for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, winning their debut match against Tunisia in straight sets. [8]
At the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena made it into the quarterfinals match, where they played against Brazil's top-ranked team of 6-foot-8 Alison "The Mammoth" Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt. There they were eliminated by a 2-1 (21-14, 12–21, 15-9) scoreline, by the hometown's favorite team. [9]
Dalhausser and Lucena made it again to the 2020 Olympics, where they finished 9th after a 1-2 against Cherif/Ahmed from Qatar. After the Olympic tournament, Dalhausser decided to retire from professional beach volleyball on the international circuit. [10]
Kerri Lee Walsh Jennings is an American professional beach volleyball player, three-time Olympic gold medalist, and a one-time Olympic bronze medalist. She is the beach volleyball leader in career victories as of 2016 having won 135 international and domestic tournaments.
Misty Elizabeth May-Treanor is a retired American professional beach volleyball player. She is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and as of August 2012, was the most successful female beach volleyball player having won 112 tournaments in domestic and international competition.
The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) is the biggest and longest-running professional beach volleyball tour in the United States. Founded in 1983, the AVP is headquartered in Newport Beach, California. The AVP operates as a 3-tiered development system with AVPFirst, a youth program; AVPNext, a developmental circuit; and the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour itself.
Jacob "Jake" Spiker Gibb is an American professional beach volleyball player, who currently plays on the AVP Tour with Taylor Crabb as his partner. Gibb and Casey Patterson represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Previously, Gibb and Sean Rosenthal played together from 2006 to 2012. The duo represented Team USA at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
Todd Jonathan Rogers is an American professional beach volleyball player who is an Olympic and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship gold medalist. He and his former partner, Phil Dalhausser, were the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 AVP Tour champions.
Larissa França Maestrini is a beach volleyball player from Brazil. She is the all-time leader of beach volleyball titles, with 57 FIVB career gold medals, including the 2011 Beach Volleyball World Championships with Juliana Felisberta and the 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour with Talita Antunes.
John Hyden is an American volleyball and beach volleyball player. Raised in San Diego, California, where he attended Mt. Carmel High School, Hyden was a member of the United States men's national volleyball team that finished in ninth place at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, he finished in 11th place with the national team.

Sean Michael Rosenthal is an American beach volleyball player, playing as a defender. He is best known for his high leaping ability, which has earned him the nickname of "Superman". Rosenthal has an entourage called "Rosie's Raiders", which is composed of close friends of his who enjoy going to his various tournaments to support him. He and his former partner, Jake Gibb, represented the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games and 2012 Olympic Games in beach volleyball.
April Elizabeth Ross is an American beach volleyball player and three-time Olympic medalist. She won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Jennifer Kessy, a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics with Kerri Walsh Jennings, and a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics with Alix Klineman. Ross and Kessy were also the 2009 Beach Volleyball World Champions.
Summer Ross is an American beach volleyball player. She was the FIVB 2010 Youth Under-19 and Junior Under-21 world champion, the only player to win both titles in the same year and was named 2010 USA Volleyball Beach Female Athlete of the Year. As of 2018, her partner is Sara Hughes.
Alison Conte Cerutti is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a blocker. In 2011, along with Emanuel Rego he won the Swatch FIVB World Tour in Prague, Czech Republic. and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships in Netherlands. and the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio alongside teammate Bruno Schmidt. In 2019, Alison partnered with Álvaro Morais Filho. The team won their first gold medal at the FIVB Kuala Lumpur event. The duo also competed in the Tokyo 2020 journey. Since 2021 Alison has been playing with Guto Carvalhaes.
Nadine Zumkehr is a Swiss beach volleyball player. As of 2012, she played with Simone Kuhn. The pair participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics tournament and were eliminated in the round of 16 by the American pair of Jennifer Kessy and April Ross who went on to win silver.
Theodore Allan Brunner is an American professional beach volleyball player who is a member of the United States men's national A2 beach volleyball team and has also featured for the United States men's national A2 volleyball team.

Nicholas Lucena is an American retired professional beach volleyball player. Lucena grew up in Davie, Florida and played indoor volleyball at Western High School. In his youth, he played beach volleyball at Fort Lauderdale Beach. He then went to Florida State University, where he graduated before embarking on his beach volleyball career.
Sara Elizabeth Hughes is an American beach volleyball player. With teammate Kelly Cheng she achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in August 2023. Hughes has won six tournaments on the AVP Pro Tour and seven gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour/Pro Beach Tour.
The 2017 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour was a domestic professional beach volleyball circuit organized in the United States by the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) for the 2017 beach volleyball season. The 2017 AVP Tour calendar comprises the "Gold Series" tournaments and "Open" tournaments.
Taylor Crabb is an American beach volleyball player who plays as a left-side defender with his partner Taylor Sander. He has won fourteen tournaments on the AVP Pro Tour, as well as one gold medal on the FIVB World Tour.
