The Swatch FIVB World Tour 2008 is an international beach volleyball competition.

Contents

The tour consists of 15 tournaments with both genders and 9 separate gender tournaments. [1]

The top eight finishes that a team has from January 1, 2007 to July 20, 2008, on the Swatch FIVB World Tour (2007 and 2008), SWATCH FIVB World Championships (2007) and on FIVB recognised Continental Championship Finals, counts towards Olympic qualification for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. [2] [3] The top 24 teams of each gender will compete in the Beijing Games. There can be a maximum of two teams per country. [2] [4]

Grand Slam

There are six Grand Slam tournaments. These events give a higher number of points and more money than the rest of the tournaments. [5]

The Russian player Igor Kolodinsky shot the fastest serve in the Swatch FIVB World Tour history, when he served at 114.0 km/h at the Italian Open presented by Abruzzo in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy. [9]

American player Elaine Youngs, became the oldest women to win an "open" FIVB event, when she was 38 years, three months and 16 days old, when she won the Hyundai Open Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. [10]

Since 2006, Momoli has been constantly involved in the World Tour and with 72 career presences, 229 international matches and 18,573 points played she is Italy's most active beach volleyball player. Together with Gioria, she was trying to qualify for London 2012 Olympics.

Alison Conte Cerutti is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a blocker. In 2011, along with Emanuel Rego he won the Swatch FIVB World Tour in Prague, Czech Republic. and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships in Netherlands. and the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio alongside teammate Bruno Schmidt. In 2019, Alison partnered with Álvaro Morais Filho. The team won their first gold medal at the FIVB Kuala Lumpur event. The duo will be also competing in the Tokyo 2020 journey.

Marta Menegatti Italian beach volleyball player

Marta Menegatti is an Italian beach volleyball player who plays as a left-side defender with her partner Viktoria Orsi Toth. With former teammate Greta Cicolari, she achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 4 in August 2012. Her career highlights include two gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour. She is also the 2011 European champion and the 2013 Mediterranean Games champion, both achieved with Cicolari. Bruno Oscar Schmidt is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a right-side defender. Bruno is the nephew of the former Brazilian basketball player Oscar Schmidt and of the TV news announcer Tadeu Schmidt. In 2010, he was named the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Most Improved Player. He was also named the Best Defensive Player in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Schmidt won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships with his teammate Alison Cerutti in the Netherlands. He won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio olympics with Alison Cerutti.

The 2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour was the global elite professional beach volleyball circuit organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) for the 2016 beach volleyball season. The 2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Calendar comprised four FIVB World Tour Grand Slams, 13 Open tournaments and four Major Series events, organised by the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series.

The Beach Volleyball Major Series was an international series of beach volleyball tournaments from 2015 to 2020. The tournaments consisted of Tour Stops and formed part of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. The series concluded with the FIVB World Tour Finals.

The United States national beach volleyball team participates in international beach volleyball competitions and is governed by USA Volleyball.
