The FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championship is a double-gender international beach volleyball tournament for athletes under the age of 21. The competition first took place in Le Lavandou, France in 2001. [1]

Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two players each on a sand court divided by a net. Similar to indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court. Each team also works in unison to prevent the opposing team from grounding the ball on their side of the court.
The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, commonly known by the acronym FIVB, is the international governing body for all forms of volleyball. Its headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its current president is Ary Graça of Brazil.

While at the ACTS Group Hannes Jagerhofer founded the Beach Majors GmbH, which was organizing the Beach Volleyball Major Series from 2015 to 2020 together with Red Bull. The Beach Volleyball Major Series was a sports series with the tournaments providing the highest prize money and ranking points of the FIVB World Tour.

Katharina Elisabeth Schützenhöfer is an Austrian professional beach volleyball player who plays as a right-side defender with her partner Lena Plesiutschnig. She won the silver medal at the first ever European Games in 2015. Her first and only FIVB World Tour victory so far, came at a 3-star event in Mersin in 2018. She won a silver medal at the 2011 U19 World Championship and a bronze medal at the 2013 U21 World Championship, both competitions were held in Umag. She is also the 2011 U20 European Champion with Plesiutschnig.
Lena Maria Plesiutschnig is an Austrian professional beach volleyball player who plays as a left-side blocker with her partner Katharina Schützenhöfer. She won the silver medal at the first ever European Games in 2015. Her first and only FIVB World Tour victory so far, came at a 3-star event in Mersin in 2018. The 2019 FIVB Women's Beach Volleyball Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament was a volleyball tournament for women's beach volleyball players organised by Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), held in September 2019. 16 teams played in the tournament, where the top 2 teams qualified to the 2020 Olympic volleyball tournament.

She and her partner Sara Hughes won the bronze medal at the 2013 U19 World Championships, the silver medal at the 2014 U21 World Championships, the gold medal at the 2023 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017.
