Sean Michael Rosenthal (born June 19, 1980) is an American beach volleyball player, playing as a defender. [1] He is best known for his high leaping ability, which has earned him the nickname of "Superman". [2] Rosenthal has an entourage called "Rosie's Raiders", [3] which is composed of close friends of his who enjoy going to his various tournaments to support him. [4] He and his former partner, Jake Gibb, represented the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games and 2012 Olympic Games in beach volleyball.
Sean Rosenthal was born in Torrance, California. He was raised by his mother, Laura Hurlburt. [5] He attended Redondo Union High School. Rosenthal was married to Kayce Matthess and has three children with her. [6] [7]
At the age of 16, he made his professional debut in the AVP. [8] Sean's partner in his first season was Dale Smith. [9] He has gone on to pair up with players like Jake Gibb and Phil Dalhausser. [10] Some of his professional accomplishments include 11 tour victories in the AVP, Best Server in the AVP in 2002, Best Defensive Player in the AVP in 2007, and participation in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Sean and partner Jake Gibb competed in eight FIVB events in 2008 as part of the Olympic qualifying process and earned $42,650 on the FIVB tour in 2008. In 2007, Rosenthal and Gibb played in six international events, with fifth being their best finish. They won $26,950.
Rosenthal made his Olympic debut at the 2008 Summer Olympics with Gibb. The team made it to the quarterfinals before losing to the Brazilian duo Ricardo Santos and Emanuel Rego. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Rosenthal and Gibb again made it to the quarter-finals where they lost to Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins of Latvia. [12] Shortly after the 2012 Summer Olympics, Gibb and Rosenthal split up as teammates after six years as partners. [13]
Kerri Lee Walsh Jennings is an American professional beach volleyball player, three-time Olympic gold medalist, and a one-time Olympic bronze medalist. She is the beach volleyball leader in career victories as of 2016 having won 135 international and domestic tournaments.
Misty Elizabeth May-Treanor is an American retired professional beach volleyball player. She is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and as of August 2012, was the most successful female beach volleyball player having won 112 tournaments in domestic and international competition.
Charles Frederick "Karch" Kiraly is an American volleyball player, coach, and broadcast announcer. He was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. He is the only player to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. Founded in 1983, the AVP is headquartered in Newport Beach, California. Philip Peter Dalhausser is an American former professional beach volleyball player, who played as a blocker. He and his former playing partner, Todd Rogers, were the 2007 AVP Tour and FIVB world champions.
Michael Dodd is an American retired professional beach volleyball player who attended San Diego State University. With his partner Mike Whitmarsh, he won the silver medal in the men's inaugural beach volleyball tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Since winning silver in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he has worked the Olympic Games of 2000 as a beach analyst and 2004 as an indoor analyst for NBC. In 2008, Dodd coached AVP stars Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal in the Beijing Olympics. Dodd also captained Team USA to a win over Brazil's best players in the inaugural AVP World Challenge in 2009.

Alison Conte Cerutti is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a blocker. In 2011, along with Emanuel Rego he won the Swatch FIVB World Tour in Prague, Czech Republic. and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships in Netherlands. and the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio alongside teammate Bruno Schmidt. In 2019, Alison partnered with Álvaro Morais Filho. The team won their first gold medal at the FIVB Kuala Lumpur event. The duo also competed in the Tokyo 2020 journey. Since 2021 Alison has been playing with Guto Carvalhaes.
Grzegorz Fijałek is a Polish male beach volleyball player. He competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics with his partner Mariusz Prudel. The other teams in their pool, group D, were Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Ruslans Sorokins (Latvia), Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal (USA) and the South African team of Freedom Chiya and Grant Goldschmidt. They lost to the Latvian team, but beat the South African and American teams. Next they played the Swiss pair of Sascha Heyer and Seba Chevallier in the last 16, winning two sets to nil. In the quarterfinals they lost to the Brazilian team of Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti.
Casey Patterson is an American professional beach volleyball player based out of Huntington Beach, California. Patterson and his former teammate, Jake Gibb, were named the USAV Team of the Year as well as AVP Team of the Year for 2013. Casey himself was named AVP Best Offensive Player for 2013. He has had a total of fifteen 1st-place finishes during his professional career.

Bruno Oscar Schmidt is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a right-side defender. Bruno is the nephew of the former Brazilian basketball player Oscar Schmidt and of the TV news announcer Tadeu Schmidt. In 2010, he was named the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Most Improved Player. He was also named the Best Defensive Player in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Schmidt won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships with his teammate Alison Cerutti in the Netherlands. He won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics with Alison Cerutti.
Sara Elizabeth Hughes is an American beach volleyball player. With teammate Kelly Cheng she achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in August 2023. Hughes has won six tournaments on the AVP Pro Tour and seven gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour/Pro Beach Tour.
Taylor Crabb is an American beach volleyball player who plays as a left-side defender with his partner Taylor Sander. He has won fourteen tournaments on the AVP Pro Tour, as well as one gold medal on the FIVB World Tour.
