Ryan Wheeler (born March 2, 1971) is an American college baseball coach and former player. He is the infield and hitting coach at Saint Joseph's University. [1] Wheeler played college baseball at Pennsylvania State University from 1991 to 1994 for head coach Joe Hindelang. He then pursued a professional career. He previously served as the head baseball coach at Temple University from 2012 to 2014. [2] [3] On December 6, 2013, Temple University announced it was dropping seven intercollegiate sports, including the baseball program. The 2014 season was its last. [4]

Playing career

Wheeler played for Penn State for four years before being drafted in the 31st round of the 1994 MLB Draft by the California Angels. He played briefly in the minors before turning to coaching.

Coaching career

Wheeler began his coaching career at William & Mary, where he served as an assistant to head coach Jim Farr, the program's all-time winningest coach. Upon Farr's departure, Wheeler moved to Penn for one season before accepting an assistant position at Richmond. Eventually adding recruiting coordinator to his coaching duties, the Spiders posted 29 wins in 2011, his final season on the staff. Prior to the 2012 season, Wheeler accepted his first head coaching position at Temple. After Temple dropped its baseball program, he became an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Saint Joseph's.

Francis Joseph "Bucko" Kilroy was an American football player and executive. Kilroy was born in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, where he attended St. Anne's grade school before attending Northeast Catholic High School and then Temple University. As a Junior at North he played on the Falcons Championship team of 1937.

Saint Josephs Hawks

The Saint Joseph's Hawks are the athletic teams that represent Saint Joseph's University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Hawks compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and of the Philadelphia Big 5. The school also has intramurals and extramurals, the latter of which compete with the City 6. The school is mostly known for its men's basketball team. The Hawk became the school's mascot in 1929. It first flapped its wings at a basketball game in 1956 in a win over La Salle University. The Saint Joseph's school colors are crimson and gray.

The Owls compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I as a member of the American Athletic Conference. They play their home games in the Liacouras Center on the university's main campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and are currently led by head coach Aaron Mckie. Temple is the fifth-most winningest NCAA Division I men's college basketball program of all time, with 1903 wins at the end of the 2017–18 season.

Mark Emil D'Onofrio is a former American college football coach and former professional player. He was formerly the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach for the University of Houston. D'Onofrio played collegiately as a linebacker at Pennsylvania State University and thereafter was drafted by the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL).

The 2010–11 Temple Owls men's basketball team represented Temple University in the 2010–11 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played their home games at the Liacouras Center, which has a capacity of 10,206. The Owls were in their 29th season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. In the previous season, Temple Owls gained a record of 29–6 and reached the NCAA Tournament. The team returned three starters from the previous season, but leading scorer Ryan Brooks and point guard Luis Guzman left, having graduated. They were replaced by new players Aaron Brown, Anthony Lee, and Jimmy McDonnell and graduate student transfer Dutch Gaitley. In the off-season, other Atlantic 10 coaches predicted that Temple Owls would win the league.

Matt Langel is the head coach for the Colgate Raiders men's basketball team. He previously served as an assistant for the Temple Owls men's basketball team for five seasons under Fran Dunphy.

The Temple Owls baseball team was a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, until the end of the 2014 season. On December 6, 2013, Temple announced that it would cut seven sports, including baseball, at the end of the 2013–14 academic year for financial reasons.

The 2011–12 Temple Owls men's basketball team represented Temple University in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played their home games at the Liacouras Center, which has a capacity of 10,206; as well as one game each at the Palestra and Wells Fargo Center. They are in their 30th season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. In their previous season, Temple compiled a record of 26–8 and reached the NCAA Tournament. The team returned four starters from the previous season, but lost power forward Lavoy Allen to graduation. He is replaced by incoming recruit Will Cummings and transfer Dalton Pepper. Anthony Lee will be eligible after red shirting last year.

Todd Butler is an American college baseball coach and former player. He played college baseball at McNeese State University from 1985 to 1986 before transferring to the University of Oklahoma in 1987 and 1988. He spent three years as the head coach at McNeese State from 2001 to 2003 and was the head coach of the Wichita State University from 2014 to 2019. Butler spent 16 seasons as an assistant coach in the Southeastern Conference under legendary Alabama coach Jim Wells and Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn.

William Geoffrey Collins is an American football coach and former player. On December 7, 2018, Collins was announced as the head coach at Georgia Tech. He was previously the head coach at Temple University, and had served in the past as defensive coordinator for the University of Florida and Mississippi State University.

Joseph J. Hindelang is a former American college baseball coach and pitcher. Hindelang also played and coached basketball. He played college baseball and basketball at Temple University from 1965 to 1967 for baseball head coach Skip Wilson and basketball head coach Harry Litwack. He then played professional baseball in 1967. He was the head baseball coach and assistant basketball coach at the University of the Sciences from 1978 to 1982, the same positions at Lafayette College from 1983 to 1990 and head baseball coach at Pennsylvania State University from 1991 to 2004. Hindelang also coached varsity baseball and basketball at Chestnut Hill Academy and the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia.
