Sabbatsberg Hospital (Swedish: Sabbatsbergs sjukhus) was a hospital in Vasastan in Stockholm. It was opened in 1879. [1]

In 1986, Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was pronounced dead at 00:06 CET on 1 March at Sabbatsbergs Hospital, after having been shot in the street earlier that night. [2]

The emergency clinic at Sabbatsberg closed in 1994. It is no longer operated as a hospital, although some healthcare-related activities are still located on the grounds, which partially have been rebuilt as housing. [3]

Some of the scenes in the film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo were shot in the hospital. [4]

Hans Gillis Åke Holmér was a Swedish civil servant and author. Holmér served as Chief of the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) and later Chief Commissioner (länspolismästare) of Stockholm County. He became well known during his tenure, spanning barely a year, as Chief of the special investigation unit into the assassination of the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme (1986–1987). Holmér was commonly associated with the Swedish Social Democratic Party and was known to have good connections within its top ranks.

On 28 February 1986, at 23:21 CET, Olof Palme, Prime Minister of Sweden, was fatally wounded by a single gunshot while walking home from a cinema with his wife Lisbeth Palme on the central Stockholm street Sveavägen. Lisbeth Palme was slightly wounded by a second shot. The couple did not have bodyguards with them.

Victor Gunnarsson was a Swedish right-wing extremist, who was a suspect in the 1986 assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme. He emigrated to the United States, and was later murdered in 1993 in North Carolina by former police officer Lamont C. Underwood as part of a love triangle.

Umedalen hospital was a psychiatric hospital located in the residential area Umedalen in Umeå, Sweden. Established in 1934, the hospital remained in service for 52 years, until 1986 when it was closed down. Nowadays the buildings of the former hospital have multiple functions, for example harbouring several schools, kindergartens and a health centre.

<i>Norrtulls sjukhus</i> Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden

Norrtulls sjukhus in Vasastan, Stockholm, Sweden was erected 1883–85 as a model orphanage, converted in the 1920s to a children's hospital that in 1951 was relocated to the Caroline Institute and later renamed to Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital. Norrtulls sjukhus was then converted into a geriatric hospital, and in the 1990s to a psychiatric clinic. As the buildings in 2004 were deemed inappropriate, they have been sold on the open market.

Stig Folke Wilhelm Engström was a Swedish graphic designer. Long treated by police as an eyewitness to the assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme, Engström was separately proposed as Palme's assassin by the Swedish writers Lars Larsson and Thomas Pettersson.

Sven Aspling was a Swedish social democrat politician who served as the general secretary of the Social Democratic Party and minister of health and social affairs. He was also a long-term member of the Swedish Parliament for the party.
