This airport serves as the primary transportation hub between Tabriz and Maragheh, facilitating the movement of goods and merchandise from Tabriz to Maragheh, including pastries. [1]

The Maragheh observatory, also spelled Maragha, Maragah, Marageh, and Maraga, was an astronomical observatory established in the mid 13th century under the patronage of the Ilkhanid Hulagu and the directorship of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, a Persian scientist and astronomer. The observatory is located on the west side of Maragheh, which is situated in today's East Azerbaijan Province of Iran. It was considered one of the most advanced scientific institutions in Eurasia because it was a center for many groundbreaking calculations in mathematics and astronomy. It housed a large collection of astronomical instruments and books and it served as an educational institution. It was also used as a model for the later Ulugh Beg Observatory in Samarkand, the Taqi al-Din observatory in Constantinople, and Jantar Mantar observatory in Jaipur.

University of Maragheh is a public university in the city of Maragheh, in East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. The university is a state-funded institution which has 4 faculties and 14 departments. Coming from different parts of Iran, approximately 3000 students attend Maragheh university. In addition, Maragheh University enjoys computer sites, facilities and laboratories. It was built on foundations from agricultural education. The Agricultural College of Maragheh began life in 1987 under the auspices of the University of Tabriz, and remained part of it until attaining Higher Education Centre status in 2005.

Ahmad Khan Moqaddam was the governor of the Iranian town of Maragheh in the early 19th-century. He had been appointed governor during the reign of king (shah) Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, and was the first member of the Moqaddam family to govern the town. His family was supposedly originally tribal leaders from the Caucasus, and had moved to Iran in the late 18th-century. However, by the early 19th-century, the family was a settled people, possessing a great number of villages.
