Sakanaction, stylised as sakanaction, are a Japanese rock band from Sapporo, Hokkaido. Their music is a fusion of alternative rock, electronic, pop, and new wave styles. The band consists of five members: Ichiro Yamaguchi, Motoharu Iwadera, Ami Kusakari, Emi Okazaki, and Keiichi Ejima.
Shin-shiro is the third studio album by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was released on January 21, 2009 through Victor Entertainment. The release was the band's first album after relocating to Tokyo and moving to Victor Entertainment's main roster. Led by the singles "Sen to Rei" and "Native Dancer", the album became the group's first release to chart in the top 10 albums on Oricon's weekly album chart.
"Aruku Around", also known as "A Look Around", is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was initially released as a digital download on January 6, 2010, before a wide release on January 13 as the band's second physical single.
"Identity" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was released in July and August 2010 as the band's first single after the release of their fourth album Kikuuiki in March 2010. The band's first summer-time release, "Identity" was an upbeat song featuring Latin percussion and lyrics about self-identity. In September 2011, it was added to the band's fifth studio album, Documentaly.
"Bach no Senritsu o Yoru ni Kiita Sei Desu" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was released as a single in July 2011, one month before the band's fifth album Documentaly.
Documentaly is the fifth studio album by Japanese band Sakanaction, released on September 28, 2011. Written around a documentary theme, the band were inspired by personal and world events in 2011 to create material for the album.
Sakanaction is the sixth studio album by Japanese band Sakanaction, released on March 13, 2013. Primarily created in recording sessions that began in September 2012 and lasted approximately four months, the album was recorded at the home of band's vocalist and songwriter, Ichiro Yamaguchi. In order to reach an audience, the band challenged themselves by creating music for commercial tie-ups and television dramas. Prior to the album, the band released three singles: two acting as theme songs for Japanese television dramas and another used in a commercial campaign for the design school Mode Gakuen.
"Sample" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. Originally a song recorded by Sakanaction's vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi's high-school band Dutchman in 2002, it was later released by Sakanaction on December 5, 2007 as a double A-side digital single alongside "Word", two months before the band's second album Night Fishing. As the leading promotional track from Night Fishing, "Sample" was heavily promoted on radio stations in Hokkaido in February, however did not receive noticeable national airplay. Since its release, "Sample" has become a staple of the band's live concert set-lists.
"Native Dancer" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was released on January 7, 2009 as a digital single from the band's third album Shin-shiro. Its accompanying music video directed by Yuichi Kodama was a critical success, winning the best conceptual video award at the 2010 Space Shower Music Video Awards.
Ichiro Yamaguchi, is a Japanese musician. He is the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the Hokkaido rock band Sakanaction.
"Rookie" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction, released as their second single from Documentaly in March 2011. The song was stylistically different from the band's previous singles, featuring a strong electronic dance music sound, which reviewers in Japan praised for its tenacity, and its fusion of dance and rock music.
"Boku to Hana" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. The theme song for the Tsuyoshi Kusanagi-starring medical drama 37-sai de Isha ni Natta Boku: Kenshui Junjō Monogatari, it was released as a single by the band in May 2012, the first from their sixth album Sakanaction.
"Yoru no Odoriko" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. Commissioned by the design school Mode Gakuen for commercials starring Jonte' Moaning, it was released as a single on August 29, 2012. A high tempo song with elements of dance, pop and rock, "Yoru no Odoriko" has a progressive structure that builds for over two minutes before reaching the song's chorus. The band took elements from their previous compositions for the song, in order to create something that would express Sakanaction's entire story to their newly found audience. Critics in Japan responded very positively to the song, believing it showed off an essential identity and style of Sakanaction's music.
"Music" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was released as a single in January 2013, two months before the band's sixth album Sakanaction. A progressive dance rock song, "Music" was adopted as the theme song for the Yōsuke Eguchi-starring drama Dinner while the band's songwriter Ichiro Yamaguchi was struggling to write lyrics for the otherwise finished composition. Inspired by the cooking drama's theme of professionalism, Yamaguchi themed the song around his own experience with professionalism, relating it to his career as a musician. The band performed the song at several high-profile venues, including NHK's Music Station and at the 64th Kōhaku Uta Gassen New Year's musical competition.
"Inori" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. An instrumental electronic track incorporating non-lexical vocables, "Inori" was a collaboration with the Japanese electronic musician Aoki Takamasa. The song originally appeared as the first song on the band's sixth studio album Sakanaction, released on March 13, 2013. Three months later, "Inori" was packaged with another instrumental song from Sakanaction, "Structure", as the Inori EP, a vinyl record-exclusive release. The record debuted at number 36 on Oricon's weekly singles chart.
"Aoi" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. Used as the 2013 theme song for NHK's broadcasts of professional soccer matches, the song was one of two promotional singles from their sixth studio album Sakanaction (2013). Sakanaction wrote the song specifically for NHK, taking inspiration from soccer, and from the associations of the word blue in Japanese, due to the home jersey color used by the Japan national football team.
"Good-Bye" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction from their seventh studio album, 834.194 (2019). It was released as a single in January 2014, as a double A-side single with the song "Eureka". A rock ballad primarily based around non-electronic instruments, the song was composed by the band's vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi about his mental state while physically unwell and mentally frustrated, after being unable to finish writing the song "Sayonara wa Emotion". In January 2014, a remix of the song was used in the NHK documentary program Next World: Watashi-tachi no Mirai, later to be included on the band's compilation album Natsukashii Tsuki wa Atarashii Tsuki: Coupling & Remix Works (2015).
"Eureka" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction from their seventh studio album, 834.194 (2019). It was released as a single in January 2014, as a double A-side single with the song "Good-Bye". The minimal techno and city pop song served as the ending credits theme song of the film Judge! (2014), while their 2010 single "Identity" was used as the film's theme song. The song was composed while the band's vocalist and songwriter Ichiro Yamaguchi was physically and mentally unwell. He used his feelings of homesickness during this time to write lyrics that compared his current residence, Tokyo, to his hometown of Otaru, Hokkaido.
"Hasu no Hana" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction from their seventh studio album, 834.194 (2019). The song was used as the theme song of the film Close Range Love (2014) starring Tomohisa Yamashita and Nana Komatsu. The version used in the film was given an initial release on October 8, 2014 digitally, followed by a single release featuring a different mix of the song on October 29, where it was paired with the song "Sayonara wa Emotion" as a double A-side single.
"Shin Takarajima" is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. The band's frontman, Ichiro Yamaguchi, wrote the lyrics and music. Shin Takarajima is the band's 11th single, released on September 15, 2015 by Victor Entertainment. The song was the band's first single since the release of "Sayonara wa Emotion", after which they took a year's hiatus in light of bassist Ami Kusakari's pregnancy. The song was featured in the soundtrack for the live-action film Bakuman and departs from the style of Sakanaction's other albums, featuring pop influences, together with an alternative rock and dance music style.
