Jyrki Sakari Kukko, (born 8 July 1953, Kajaani, Finland) is a Finnish musician. [1]
Kukko started his career in the early 1960s as a singer participating in several singing contests and performing in radio stations, TV programs and other venues. At the age of 7, He began taking piano lessons. Soon after that he started to play also guitar and flute, and later saxophone. In the mid-1960s, He started forming bands. He constructed a school band, playing mainly rock and roll, but soon after that he formed a group of local dance bands.
He embarked his career by playing with other musicians like Kajaani Big Band (1969–1972), Kisu & Uniset (1970–1971), Markku Suominen's Monopol (1970–1971), Tapiola Big Band (1972–1974), Oulunkylä Big Band (1972–1974), Maarit & Afrikan Tähti (1972–1973), Kalevala (1972–1973), SIMO Big Band (pre-UMO)(1972–1973), Jukka Tolonen's band (1973–1974), Heikki Sarmanto's band (1979), Sensation Band of Addis Ababa (1976), Mahmoud Ahmed's Ibex Band (1976), Etoile de Dakar (1979), Espoo Big Band (1990), Samuli Mikkonen & 7 henkeä (2003), Kingston Wall (1992–1994), Amorphis (1999–2001), Pori Jazz All Stars, Okay Temiz (several different bands 1992–2008) and so on. He founded the group Piirpauke in 1974.

Kukko represented YLE (Finnish broadcasting company) in the EBU Big Band in Sarajevo (1976) and participated in many radio and festival big bands which anticipated the UMO Big Band. In the early 1970s, Kukko worked as a studio-musician and performed as a freelancer with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO), and the Finnish National Opera.
Kukko composed music for his own bands, EBB, Koiton Laulu and several films and theaters.
Since 1974, Piirpauke has been Kukko's main project. The band has given hundreds of concerts in almost 40 countries in countless festivals and other venues.

Tasavallan Presidentti is a Finnish progressive rock band. It was founded in 1969 by guitarist Jukka Tolonen and drummer Vesa Aaltonen. Other founder members were Måns Groundstroem (bass) and Frank Robson (vocals), previously of Blues Section. Juhani Aaltonen (saxophone/flute) had earlier played in Soulset; he was replaced in 1970 by Pekka Pöyry. Eero Raittinen replaced Robson as a vocalist in 1972, the same year as the album Lambertland was released in UK. The album was a tight fusion of jazz and folk rock with highly inventive and imaginative lyrics which charted at the number 7 position in Finland. Milky Way Moses reached number 12 in Finland in 1974. The band toured in continental Europe and the United Kingdom in 1973 and 1974, but Pöyry, stricken with bouts of manic depression, was occasionally replaced with keyboardist Esa Kotilainen on live dates.
Hannes Mikael Waldemar "Hasse" Walli is a Finnish guitarist. His father Aarno Walli was a musician and bandleader, his mother Anne-Marie Strandberg a singer. Hasse Walli was about ten years old when he started playing drums. He drummed in various bands in early 1960s such as The Islanders, The Electric Five and Nameless. Gradually Walli switched from drums to electric guitar. After Nameless had split, Walli started as a solo guitarist in The Typhoons. The Typhoons split when its members had to join the obligatory military service.
Eero Koivistoinen is a Finnish jazz musician and saxophone player, who started his career in the mid-1960s. Koivistoinen has worked as a musician, composer, arranger, conductor, producer and educator. He first heard jazz from the records his sailor brother had brought in from his travels. As a youngster Koivistoinen studied classical violin, saxophone and also composition at the Sibelius Academy, and later jazz at Berklee College of Music in Boston. His first line-up featured the drummer Edward Vesala and bassist Pekka Sarmanto. Koivistoinen was also a member of the seminal Finnish rock band Blues Section in the years 1967 and 1968. In 1968 he released his first solo album, a "literary record" called Valtakunta which featured songs composed to the texts of such poets as Pentti Saarikoski, Jarkko Laine, Tuomas Anhava and Hannu Mäkelä; interpreted by the vocalists Vesa-Matti Loiri, Eero Raittinen and Seija Simola. Eero Koivistoinen's later solo albums such as Wahoo (1972) enjoy a considerable international reputation. His hip hop-influenced 2006 album X-Ray features such people as the vocalists Charles Salter and Bina Nkwazi, DJ LBJ and the rap artist Redrama.

Ismaila Sané is a Senegalese born percussionist, singer, solo dancer of African ballet, choreographer and pedagogue. He was born on January 4, 1956, in Coubalan, Casamance, Senegal). Sané lived in Spain from 1981 to 1999, and since 1999 he has made his home Finland. Sané is well known in Finland from his solo career but also from the bands Senfi, Galaxy and Piirpauke and in Spain from bands Baba Djembe and Mbalax.
Juhani Aaltonen is a Finnish jazz saxophonist and flautist.
Thad Jones, Mel Lewis and UMO is a big band jazz recording by UMO with guest bandleaders / performers Thad Jones and Mel Lewis. It was recorded in Helsinki in 1977 and was nominated for a 1979 Grammy award in the "Best Jazz Instrumental Performance - Big Band" category.
