Nordland is one of the three northernmost counties in Norway in the Northern Norway region, bordering Troms in the north, Trøndelag in the south, Norrbotten County in Sweden to the east, Västerbotten County to the south-east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The county was formerly known as Nordlandene amt. The county administration is in the town of Bodø. The remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen has been administered from Nordland since 1995. In the southern part of the county is Vega, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

The municipality surrounds the Sørfolda fjord and stretches east to the border with Sweden.
Steigen ('stejgen) is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Salten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Leinesfjord. Other villages include Bogen, Leines, Nordfold, Nordskot, and Sørskot. Engeløy Airport, Grådussan is located in the northern part of the municipality. Måløy–Skarholmen Lighthouse is located in the Vestfjorden in the western part of the municipality. The only road access to the municipality is via the Steigen Tunnel.

Folden is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 2,271-square-kilometre (877 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1887. Folden encompassed all of the areas surrounding the Folda fjord and all of the fjord branches that connect to the main fjord. It included all the areas in what is now Sørfold Municipality, plus the Kjerringøy area of Bodø Municipality, and the southeastern part of the Steigen Municipality.
Nordfold-Kjerringøy or Nordfold og Kjerringøy is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 737-square-kilometre (285 sq mi) municipality existed from 1887 until its dissolution in 1906. The municipality covered the area surrounding the entrance to the large Folda fjord plus the area surrounding the northern branch of that fjord. It included the southern part of what is now Steigen Municipality, the northern part of the present-day Bodø Municipality, and the northern part of what is now Sørfold Municipality.
Saltfjellet is a mountain area in Nordland county, Norway that separates the two regions of Helgeland and Salten. It is also a cultural border between the Southern and Central parts of Sápmi.
Salten District Court was a district court in Nordland county, Norway. The court was based in the town of Bodø. The court existed until 2021. It served the Salten area which included the municipalities of Beiarn, Bodø, Fauske, Gildeskål, Meløy, Røst, Saltdal, Steigen, Sørfold, and Værøy. It also held jurisdiction over the outlying territory of Jan Mayen. Cases from this court could be appealed to Hålogaland Court of Appeal. The court was led by the chief judge Ingrid Johanne Lillevik. This court employed a chief judge, four other judges, and four prosecutors.
Salten Police District was a police district in Norway until 2017 when it became part of the Nordland Police District.
Sulitjelma is a mountain massif on the Norway-Sweden border in the municipality of Fauske in Nordland, Norway and the municipality of Arjeplog in Norrbotten, Sweden. The massif lies east of the village of Sulitjelma, which takes its name from the mountain. The massif is bordered by Låmivatnet and Muorkkejávrre to the south, and by Bajep Sårjåsjávrre and Vuolep Sårjåsjávrre to the north. About two-thirds of the mountain is in Norway. The Langvann Valley extends toward the massif along a northwest–southeast axis, through which the Sjønstå River flows, forming the Sulitjelma watercourse. The valley starts at the village of Sjønstå on Øvervatnet, which lies about 17 kilometers (11 mi) east of the village of Sulitjelma itself.
Skjerstad is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 465-square-kilometre (180 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2005. The municipality generally encompassed the area around the Misværfjorden in what is now Bodø Municipality, although it originally was much larger, also including the entire present-day Fauske Municipality. The administrative centre of Skjerstad municipality was the village of Misvær.
Nordfold is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 561-square-kilometre (217 sq mi) municipality existed from 1906 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality surrounded the Nordfolda branch off of the Folda fjord in what is now Steigen Municipality, plus a small portion of the present-day Sørfold Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Nordfold, where the Nordfold Church is located.
Kjerringøy is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 176-square-kilometre (68 sq mi) municipality existed from 1906 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality included the coastal and island areas around the entrance to the Folda fjord, plus the northern coast of the Mistfjorden to the south of the Folda fjord. About 400 small islands totaling about 11 square kilometres (4.2 sq mi) were part of the municipality. The areas are located in what is now Bodø Municipality and a small part in Steigen Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Kjerringøy where Kjerringøy Church is located.
Salten og Lofoten District Court is a district court located in Nordland county, Norway. This court is based at two different courthouses which are located in Bodø and Svolvær. The court serves the Salten and Lofoten areas in the county which includes cases from 16 municipalities. The court in Bodø accepts cases from the municipalities of Beiarn, Bodø, Fauske, Gildeskål, Hamarøy, Meløy, Rødøy, Saltdal, Steigen, and Sørfold. The court in Svolvær accepts cases from the municipalities of Vågan, Vestvågøy, Flakstad, Moskenes, Værøy, and Røst. The court is subordinate to the Hålogaland Court of Appeal.
