Samuel Peter Matterface (born 27 April 1978) is an English sports broadcaster currently working for TalkSPORT [1] and ITV Sport. Since 2018, he has been the commentator on the ITV1 skating competition Dancing on Ice .

Career

Matterface started working in sports radio in 1992 for local hospital radio station OHR, before moving into commercial radio at 16. He worked at BBC Radio Kent in 1998, then Capital Gold Sport from 1999. Matterface worked at the south-coast radio station 107.4 The Quay, where he presented the breakfast show and a variety of sports related programmes from 2001–2007.

Between 2006 and 2007, Matterface worked on the Sky channel Bravo, featuring in weekly segments on the football magazine show Football Italia . He presented short reels, entitled "What's a Matter You?", showcasing the more light-hearted moments of the Serie A gameweek, amidst the ongoing 2006 match-fixing scandal. The section was dropped in 2007 when the rights to Italian football were acquired by the free-to-air broadcaster Channel 5. [2]

He started presenting on Sky Sports News in July 2007, before leaving in late 2010. [3]

On 12 January 2018, Matterface was confirmed as Matt Chapman's replacement as commentator for ITV's Dancing on Ice . [4]

On 14 July 2020, ITV announced that Matterface would replace Clive Tyldesley as lead football and England commentator at the start of the 2020-2021 season. [5]

Personal life

Matterface is a supporter of Chelsea. He was previously married to former Sky Sports colleague Natalie Sawyer with whom he has a child. [6]

The eleventh series of Dancing on Ice debuted on 6 January 2019 on ITV. Filming took place in the purpose-built studio at Bovingdon Airfield. An announcement was made on 11 March 2018, during the series ten finale, that the show had been recommissioned for another series.

EFL on Quest was a football highlights programme on the Quest channel in the United Kingdom. The programme covered the English Football League, taking over from Channel 5's Football League Tonight.

The fourteenth series of Dancing on Ice debuted on ITV on 16 January 2022. During the finale of the thirteenth series, it was announced that Dancing on Ice had been renewed for another series. The series was once again filmed in the purpose-built studio at Bovingdon Airfield. Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby returned as hosts. Ashley Banjo, Christopher Dean, and Jayne Torvill returned as judges for their fifth series, while it was announced on 3 October 2021, that John Barrowman would not be returning to the judging panel. In December, Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse was confirmed as Barrowman's replacement. Arlene Phillips also joined the panel on 20 February as a guest judge.
