Sambas is a town and the regency seat of Sambas Regency (Kabupaten Sambas), on the island of Kalimantan. Sambas Regency is one of the regencies of West Kalimantan province in Indonesia.
Sambas town is located on the south side of the Sambas River between 1°11'20" and 1°24'48" north latitude and between 109°09'16" and 109°26'23" east longitude. With an area of 246.66 square kilometres (95.24 sq mi), Sambas town area covers just under 4% of the area of Sambas Regency. [1] The town district had 57,300 inhabitants at the 2020 Census, [2] and increased to 59,000 at the official estimates for mid 2022. [3]

Bengkayang Regency is a regency ("kabupaten") in West Kalimantan Province of Indonesia,. The area was originally a part of Sambas Regency, but following the expansion of the population in that area, Sambas Regency was divided into a smaller Sambas Regency and a new Bengkayang Regency on 20 April 1999, and then Singkawang City was subsequently cut out of Bengkayang Regency on 21 June 2001. The regency now covers an area of 5,382.74 km2, and had a population of 215,277 at the 2010 Census and 286,366 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 296,855. The administrative centre is in the town of Bengkayang.
Kapuas Hulu Regency is a regency in West Kalimantan province of Indonesia. Located around Kapuas River, it has a total area of 29,842.03 square kilometres or around 20.26% of West Kalimantan province's area. The regency seat is located in town of Putussibau, where most of its economic and government activities take place. Due to its relatively large area, it is sparsely populated compared to neighbouring regencies around it. The regency had a population of 222,160 at the 2010 Census and 252,609 according to the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 254,995.
Bulungan Regency is a regency of North Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. It covers an area of 13,181.92 km2 and had a population of 112,663 at the 2010 Census and 151,844 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 157,593. The administrative centre is at Tanjung Selor.
Balangan Regency is one of the regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. It was created on 25 February 2003 from what were previously the eastern districts of North Hulu Sungai Regency. It now covers an area of 1,828.51 km2, and had a population of 112,430 at the 2010 Census and 130,355 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 134,512, consisting of 67,958 males and 66,554 females. The capital is Paringin. Motto: "Sanggam" (Banjarese), also an acronym for "Sanggup Bagawi Gasan Masyarakat".
Barito Kuala Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan, situated in the southwest of the province. The area is 2,996.46 km2, and the population was 276,147 at the 2010 Census and 313,021 at the 2020 Census; the latest official estimate was 321,769. The capital is the town of Marabahan. The Motto of the Regency is "Selidah".
North Hulu Sungai Regency is one of the regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. It was created on 26 June 1959 from the trifurcation of the original Hulu Sungai Regency and formerly covered a much larger area in the north of the province, but on 14 July 1965 the northern districts were split off to create a separate Tabalong Regency, and on 25 February 2003 the eastern districts were split off to create a separate Balangan Regency. It now has an area of 907.49 km2, and had a population of 209,246 at the 2010 Census and 226,727 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 231,290. The capital of the regency is the town of Amuntai.
Tanah Laut Regency is one of the regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. It encompasses the southernmost part of Kalimantan (Borneo). The area is 3,631.35 km2, and the population was 296,333 at the 2010 Census and 348,966 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 361,044. The capital is the town of Pelaihari. Tapin Regency is one of regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. The regency was created on 14 July 1965 by splitting off the districts which had until then comprised the southern part of South Hulu Sungai Regency. The regency's motto is "Ruhui Rahayu", and this is also shared by another Indonesian province. It covers an area of 2,174.95 km2 and had a population of 167,877 at the 2010 Census and 189,475 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 194,628. The administrative centre of the regency is at the town of Rantau.

Paser Regency is a regency (kabupaten) within East Kalimantan province in Indonesia, it is the southernmost regency of the East Kalimantan province. Its administrative centre is Tana Paser. Sambas Regency is the most northerly regency in West Kalimantan Province of Indonesia. The regency is one of the original regencies in West Kalimantan, but on 20 April 1999 the southern districts were removed from Sambas Regency to form a new Bengkayang Regency. The residual regency now covers 6,394.70 km2, and had a population of 496,120 at the 2010 census and 629,905 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 647,844. The administrative centre is at the town of Sambas.
East Barito Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was formed on 10 April 2002 from districts which were formerly part of South Barito Regency. The town of Tamiang Layang is the capital of East Barito Regency, which covers an area of 3,834 km2. The population of the Regency was 97,372 at the 2010 Census and 113,229 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 115,406.
Pulang Pisau Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was created on 10 April 2002 from what were previously the southwest districts of Kapuas Regency. The town of Pulang Pisau is the capital of Pulang Pisau Regency. The population of Pulang Pisau Regency was 120,062 at the 2010 Census ; and 134,499 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 136,221.
Sukamara Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was created on 10 April 2002 from the former southwest part of West Kotawaringin Regency. The town of Sukamara is the capital of Sukamara Regency, which covers an area of 3,827 km2. The population of the Regency was 44,952 at the 2010 Census and 63,464 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 66,845.
Malinau Regency is a regency of North Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. It was created on 4 October 1999 from the western districts of Bulungan Regency. The administrative centre is the town of Malinau. The regency is home to the Kayan Mentarang National Park. It covers an area of 38,973.56 km2, and had a population of 62,423 at the 2010 Census and 82,510 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 85,316. It is the regency with the largest area in the province, as well as the least densely populated. Other than that, Malinau is the only regency in North Kalimantan that is predominantly Protestant and the second most-developed region in North Kalimantan after Tarakan in terms of Human Development Index.
Landak Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan province, Indonesia. It was created on 4 October 1999 from the northeastern part of Pontianak Regency. It covers 9,909.10 km2 and had a population of 329,649 at the 2010 Census and 397,610 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 405,396. The principal town lies at Ngabang. Landak is also one of the four regencies in West Kalimantan whose population is predominantly Catholic, the others being Sanggau, Sekadau, and Sintang.
Mempawah Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan Province of Indonesia. Originally including a wider area of West Kalimantan, this Pontianak Regency was reduced on 4 October 1999 by the north-eastern districts being removed to form a new Landak Regency, and was further reduced on 17 July 2007 by its southern districts cut out to create a new Kubu Raya Regency. Since 2007 it covers 2,797.88 km2, and had a population of 234,021 at the 2010 Census and 301,560 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 310,927. The principal town lies at Mempawah.
Sekadau Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan province of Indonesia. It was created on 18 December 2003 from the eastern part of Sanggau Regency. It covers an area of 6,275.39 km2, and had a population of 181,634 at the 2010 Census and 211,559 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 214,429. The regency seat lies at the town of Sekadau in Sekadau Hilir District.
Sintang Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 21,638.2 km2, and had a population of 364,759 at the 2010 Census and 421,306 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 426,416. It is one of the few Indonesian regencies having a land border with other countries. It is also the second largest regency in the province by land area after Landak Regency. The regency was formerly the site of the Sintang Kingdom, a Hindu kingdom that later converted to Islam and which was a regional power in the interior of Borneo Island. The regency seat is located at the large town of Sintang, which is among the biggest settlements in Borneo's interior alongside Putussibau and Puruk Cahu.
Tanjung Selor is the capital of both the North Kalimantan province in Indonesia, and of the Bulungan Regency. It is among provincial capitals in Indonesia that as of 2021 does not yet have city status, together with Mamuju in West Sulawesi, Sofifi in North Maluku, Nabire in Central Papua, Wamena in Highland Papua, Merauke in South Papua, and Manokwari in West Papua. The district has an area of 677.77 km2 and had a population of 39,439 at the 2010 Census and 56,569 at the 2020 Census.
