Samuel Ogazi (born 14 May 2006) is a Nigerian sprinter. [1]

Early life

Ogazi was based as a teenager in Kaduna. [2] In 2023, he agreed a scholarship with the University of Alabama. [3]

Career

He competed in the 4x400m relay at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia. [4]

He won the 200m and 400m at the 2023 African U18 and U20 Championships in Athletics in Ndola, Zambia. [5] He won gold over 200 metres and 400 metres at the Athletics at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago. He also won gold in the mixed 4x100m relay as his Nigerian team set a new games record. [6]

In March 2024, he set a new Nigerian under-18 record for the 400 metres, running 45.35s to finish second overall behind Christopher Morales Williams in Louisiana. [7] The following month he lowered his personal best to 45.29 seconds in Florida. [8]

He competed for Nigeria at the 2024 World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. [9] With a time of 3:12.87, the Nigerian Mixed 4x400m team of Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Chidi Okezie and Esther Joseph set a new Nigerian national record and African Continental record at the event on 5 May 2024. [10] Later that month he lowered his personal best to 44.53 seconds in Lexington, Kentucky. [11] He was runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, running 44.52 seconds. [12]

In June 2024, he won bronze in the 400 metres at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon. [13]

The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Matthew Hudson-Smith is a British track and field sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. He was the 2018 European Champion in 400 metres, and a member of the gold-winning teams in the 4 x 400 metre relay at the 2014 European Athletics Championships, with Great Britain and 2014 Commonwealth Games with England.

Matthew Boling is an American track and field athlete specializing in the sprints and long jump. He won four gold medals at the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships in the 100 m, 200 m, 4 × 100 m relay and 4 × 400 m relay, and helped set world under-20 records in both of the relay races for the United States. He also ran in the semi-final for the American 4 × 400 m relay team at the 2018 World U20 Championships that went on to earn silver in the final. Boling would later go on to win a gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the mixed 4 x 400 m relay, and would help set a world record for the event in the process.

Favour Chukwuka Ofili is a Nigerian track and field sprinter. She is the 2019 African Games silver medallist in the 400 metres. Ofili won silver for the 200 metres at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Amber Anning is a British sprinter. She is the British record holder indoors over 200m and she was part of British teams that won medals in the women's 4 × 400 metres relay events at the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships and 2023 World Athletics Championships. She also won medals at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games and the 2019 European Athletics U20 Championships. Anning competed in college athletics for LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks.

Lanae-Tava Thomas is a Jamaican track and field athlete who competes as a sprinter. She finished second at the Jamaican national championships over 200 metres in 2024.

Christopher Morales Williams is a Canadian sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. Since 2022, he has competed for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. On February 24, 2024, as a sophomore, he set a unofficial world indoor record in the 400 m of 44.49 at the SEC Championships held in Fayetteville. He then set a new Canadian record in the 400m at the 2024 Outdoor SEC Championships on May 11 with a time of 44.05.

JaMeesia Ford is an American track and field athlete who competes as a sprinter. In March 2024, she became the NCAA 200 metres indoor champion. She is also the American national under-20 indoor record holder over 200 metres and is world under-20 record holder over 300 metres.

Faith Okwose is a Nigerian sprinter. She became the Nigerian national champion over 200 metres in 2023.
