European Athletics Championships appearances (overview)

San Marino has competed at 10 editions of the European Athletics Championships . After beginning at the 1990 championships, the team has competed at every edition of the event since 2002.

Contents

San Marino's youngest competitor was Ivano Bucci at 19 years 249 days old at the 2006 European Athletics Championships. Their oldest entrant was Sara Maroncelli, aged 28 years 151 days at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. Eugenio Rossi has the most appearances with 4 showings. [3]

Rossi hoped to earn San Marino's first medal at the 2016 European Championships, thanks to his 2.27 m personal best which would have placed him 5th in the high jump at the 2014 championships. [4]

The Federazione Sammarinese Atletica Leggera was founded in 1969 and it became a member of World Athletics in 1976. [1] [5]

The Gibraltar national under-21 football team represents Gibraltar in football competitions at under-21 level and is controlled by the Gibraltar Football Association. It is a full member of FIFA and is therefore eligible to enter any FIFA-sanctioned tournaments. Gibraltar applied for full UEFA membership and was accepted by the UEFA Congress in May 2013 and can therefore compete in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship beginning with the 2015 edition of the tournament, although they did not participate until 2017, in qualification for the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Eugenio Rossi is an athlete from San Marino specialising in the high jump. His personal best of 2.27 metres is the best performance ever by a Sammarinese track and field athlete in any event. He represented his country at two outdoor and two indoor European Championships and in addition has won several medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe.

Myles Nazem Amine is a freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes at 86 kilograms. Born in the United States, he represents San Marino internationally. He is a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School.

Initially the competition was awarded to Cluj-Napoca, Romania but due to Cluj Arena not being fit for such championships, European Athletics decided to award the competition to Israel.

The 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships was held from 2 to 5 March 2023 at the Ataköy Arena in Istanbul, Turkey, the first time the event took place in this country although the venue did stage the 2012 World Indoor Championships for which this 7000-seater was specifically built. The four-day competition was held during the centenary year of the Republic of Turkey, and featured 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events over three morning and four afternoon sessions.
