Sandwell Community Caring Trust is a registered charity set up in 1997 based in Sandwell. It provides residential and day care for people with physical and learning disabilities. It supports more than 600 people across a range of properties. It was cited by the Cabinet Office as an example or an organisation where, "since the staff have taken over, back-office costs have halved meaning more money is spent where it matters." [1]

Geoff Walker is the Chief Executive Officer. [2] He was shortlisted for Most People-Focused CEO at the HR Excellence Awards 2011. [3] The organisation took second place in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies To Work For survey in 2006. [4]

In 2008 SCCT won a contract to provide NHS and social services in Torbay.

It took over three care homes with 150 staff: Grafton Lodge in Oldbury, Glebefields in Tipton and Greenhaven in Great Bridge in 2011 when they were threatened with closure after Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council said it could not afford to keep them open. [5]

Unity Trust Bank and Big Issue Invest invested £4.2m into the organisation in 2014 to buy new care home facilities. [6]

It planned to build a 62-bed home off Harvest Road in Rowley Regis in 2014. [7]

It took over Occombe House in Paignton which is owned by Torbay Council and run by Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust. It provides for eight residents who require a high level of care and round-the-clock support. It was agreed in January 2015, after a dispute lasting 7 years, that the existing building should be replaced by two new four bedroom bungalows which will be built and run by Sandwell Community Caring Trust. In 2021 it cared for 150 people across 66 supported-living settings. The Care Quality Commission put it into special measures after they found it made decisions about people's care without involving them and where it had no legal authority to do so – including administering their medicines covertly and using surveillance equipment in breach of the Mental Capacity Act. [9]

Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust was a NHS trust that provided health and care in and around Torbay, Devon, England. It was a pioneer within the NHS in England in demonstrating the advantages of integrating health and social care into one organisation. And "one of three areas that have been working to learn from Kaiser Permanente, a leading United States health maintenance organisation." It was established as Torbay Care Trust in October 2005, with responsibility for social care in a partnership agreement with Torbay Borough Council. From then until April 2012, the trust had responsibility for both commissioning (buying) and providing integrated health and social care services to people in the Torbay area. As part of the changes associated with the Health and Social Care Act 2012 the commissioning function was detached from the trust.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of NHS services in Torbay. It runs Torbay Hospital. The area is seen as pioneering in the English NHS because of the work done with Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust to integrate health and social care. In November 2013 it was selected as one of 14 Pioneer site for integrated care development.

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a NHS trust which provides mental health, learning disability and community health care services in Calderdale, Kirklees, Wakefield and Barnsley. The trust also provides some of the medium secure forensic services for the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The trust's headquarters is located at Fieldhead Hospital in Wakefield which is a psychiatric and learning disabilities hospital.

Out-of-hours services are the arrangements to provide access to healthcare at times when General Practitioner surgeries are closed; in the United Kingdom this is normally between 6.30pm and 8am, at weekends, at Bank Holidays and sometimes if the practice is closed for educational sessions.

Healthcare in Devon was the responsibility of two clinical commissioning groups until July 2022, one covering Northern, Eastern and Western Devon, and one covering South Devon and Torbay. It was announced in November 2018 that the two were to merge.

Healthcare in the West Midlands was, until July 2022, the responsibility of five clinical commissioning groups: Birmingham and Solihull, Sandwell and West Birmingham, Dudley, Wolverhampton, and Walsall.
