Sangeeta Yadav is an Indian politician and a member of parliament (Rajya Sabha). She was a member of the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh of India. She represented the Chauri-Chaura Assembly constituency in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh and is a national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha. [1]

Early life and education

Yadav was born on July 20, 1981 in Borivali, Mumbai of Maharashtra to her father Shri R P Yadav. In 2009, she married Ajay Kumar (Maurya) (Addl. Commissioner of Income Tax). [2] She belongs to (Yadav) community. She got a Bachelor of Laws degree from MMH College, Ghaziabad in 2004. [3]

Political career

After joining the BJP in 2013, Sangeeta Yadav continued to contribute to the party. In the 2017 assembly elections, the party fielded her as the candidate from the Chauri Chaura (Gorakhpur) seat, and she secured a victory with a significant margin. She got elected as MLA by defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Manoranjan Yadav by a margin of 45,660 votes. [4]

However, in the 2022 assembly elections, this seat was allocated to the Nishad Party under the alliance. Despite the withdrawal of her ticket, Sangeeta did not object to the party's decision and played a crucial role in ensuring the victory of the alliance candidate. She worked tirelessly, round the clock, specifically focusing on women's engagement and mobilisation and ensured victory. As a mark of honour, the party nominated her as a Rajya Sabha candidate in June 2022. [5]

Sangeeta Yadav was rewarded for her hard work by the Bharatiya Janata Party, earning her a place in its very first list for the Rajya Sabha. Throughout these years, Sangeeta Yadav has actively participated in Gorakhpur's political landscape. In June 2022, she secured a seat as a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, she has been serving as the National Secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha since 2021. [6]

Parliamentary Engagement

Sangeeta Yadav, as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, boasts an impressive attendance record of 94%, significantly exceeding the average of 79%. Demonstrating her commitment to public service, she swiftly immersed herself in raising crucial public issues on the parliamentary platform. Over the course of six sessions, Sangeeta Yadav actively participated in 16 debates, addressing a wide spectrum of topics, from legislative bills to pressing concerns about women's safety. In her concise one-and-a-half-year term, she has proven to be a dynamic representative, posing 81 starred and unstarred questions on diverse issues that directly impact the citizens she serves. [7] Sangeeta Yadav's proactive engagement underscores her dedication to contributing meaningfully to the welfare of the people and the nation.

Sangeeta Yadav is also a member of several crucial committees, including parliamentary standing committees, making substantial contributions in the policy-making process. In August 2022, Sangeeta Yadav was appointed a member of the Committee on Official Language, where she is actively contributing to the promotion of linguistic diversity and fostering effective communication within the government's machinery. Since September 2022, she has been serving as a member of departmentally related standing committees on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports. Since becoming a member, she has applied a comprehensive approach to address diverse issues crucial for societal development. Her contributions extend to shaping policies and initiatives that impact education, women, children, and youth, showcasing her dedication to holistic societal advancement.

In October 2022, she was nominated by the chairman to serve as a member of the Committee on Empowerment of Women. In this role, Sangeeta Yadav has actively engaged in discussions and initiatives aimed at advancing gender empowerment, emphasising her commitment to promoting women's rights and equality. Furthermore, in October 2022, she became a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Labour and Employment. As a member, Sangeeta Yadav plays a pivotal role in shaping policies related to critical labour and employment issues. Sangeeta Yadav has consistently attended most of the meetings of these committees and diligently fulfills her assigned responsibilities. Her proactive and engaged approach underscores her commitment to contributing meaningfully to the discussions and decisions that shape key national concerns across the various committees she serves.

Chandrapal Singh Yadav is an Indian politician who was as a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India. Yadav was recently elected as a president of the I.C.A - Asia Pacific region. He was previously a member of the 14th Lok Sabha for the Jhansi constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He was also a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly between 1996 and 2001.
