Sani Ghose Ray is an Indian Film director and producer based out of Kolkata. He is also one of the founder members of the production house Acropoliis Entertainment along with a line production company Greyscale Entertainment. [1] [2]

Film career

Ghose Ray began his career by assisting directors such as Rituparno Ghosh, Sudeshna Roy, and Abhijit Guha. He worked as an Executive Producer / Line Producer / Associate Director on films such as Abohomaan, Sunglass, Khela, Sob Charitra Kalponik, Noukadubi by Rituparno Ghosh, Raavan by Mani Ratnam, Tamasha by Imtiaz Ali, and others, as well as nonfiction TV shows such as "Ghosh & Co.", anchored by Rituparno Ghosh.[ citation needed ]

As producer

In 2006, Ghose Ray started Acropoliis Entertainment, a film production company based in Kolkata, along with Snigdha Sumit Basu, Sumit Tinkari Basu and Rajnish Jaichandra Hedao.

Ghose Ray started his entrepreneurial journey with television in 2009. He has produced around 25 TV serials for Star Jalsha, Zee Bangla, and Colors Bangla, including Raashi, Agnipariksha, Bodhuboron, Mon Phagun, Kamala O Sriman Prithwiraj, Gaatchora and others. [4]

In 2017, he produced Nagarkirtan, directed by Kaushik Ganguly, under the banner of Acropoliis Entertainment. At the 65th National Film Awards, Ghose Ray received National Film Award – Special Jury Award (feature film) for this film. [5]

The film received four National Awards (Special Jury Awards, Feature Film, Best Makeup, and Best Costume), as well as the National Film Award for Best Actor for Riddhi Sen. [6]

As director

In 2020, Ghose Ray debuted as a director with 'Bonyo Premer Golpo' on Hoichoi. It was one of the platform's most popular shows. With OTT programmes like Srikanto, Ray gradually established himself as a director. [7] [8]

In 2023, he directed Swethkali (a psychological thriller) for ZEE5, which has become the platform's most successful programme to date. [9] Ghose Ray's other OTT series 'Jaatishawr' is also released at Hoichoi OTT platform. [10] [11]

Murder in the Hills is a Bengali crime thriller web series streaming on the OTT platform hoichoi. The series was released on 23 July 2021. The series is directed by Anjan Dutt, who makes his directorial debut for a web series. This film is loosely based on the storyline of the famous detective novel of Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express.

The festival opened with 1973 film Abhimaan, by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. 183 films including 130 feature films and 52 short and documentary films from 42 countries were screened during 7 days of the festival. The opening ceremony was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Mahesh Bhatt and cricketer Sourav Ganguly.

Projapoti is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language family drama film directed by Avijit Sen, produced by Atanu Raychaudhuri, co-produced by Dev and distributed by SSR Cinemas. The film features Mithun Chakraborty, Mamata Shankar and Koushani Mukherjee in lead roles. The movie was theatrically released on 23 December 2022 and had its digital premiere on the streaming platform ZEE5 on 14 April 2023. It received a blockbuster verdict at the box office. Made on a budget of ₹1.5 Crores, it grossed over ₹14 crores and became the highest grossing Bengali film of 2022 and the third highest-grossing Bengali films of all time.
