Sanjay Kumar is an Indian political analyst and psephologist. He served as the director of Centre for the Study of Developing Societies from January 2014 to January 2020. [1] His primarily areas of interest lies are electoral politics,political mobilization,Indian youth and Indian democracy. He has conducted research on a wide range of themes,including state of democracy in South Asia,state of Indian farmers,electoral violence and slums of Delhi. [2] [3]
He graduated with B.A in Political Science from Ramjas College,University of Delhi in 1988. [4] He completed his Masters and M. Phil from University of Delhi. He studied survey research at the University of Michigan Survey Research Center.[ citation needed ]
He succeeded Rajeev Bhargava as Director of Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in 2014. He serves as co-director of Lokniti Programme. He has published widely,written and edited books,contributed chapters for edited volumes and published articles in national and international research journals. [5]
He writes regularly for national and regional newspapers,in English and Hindi. His articles are published regularly in The Hindu , [6] The Indian Express , The Asian Age , [7] Deccan Chronicle , [8] Dainik Bhaskar , Rajasthan Patrika and The Mint. [9] [10] He frequently appears on Indian television as a psephologist and political commentator. [11] [12] He has also served as an international election observer in many countries. [13]
The Bharatiya Janata Party is a political party in India and one of the two major Indian political parties alongside the Indian National Congress. Since 2014,it has been the ruling political party in India under the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP is aligned with right-wing politics and has close ideological and organisational links to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer paramilitary organisation. Charan Singh,better known as Chaudhary Charan Singh, was an Indian anti-colonial nationalist,secular humanist,social democrat,and author who was a central figure among the agrarian community in India during late 1970s and early 1980s. Singh was principally known for his land and agricultural reform initiatives. He briefly served as the 5th prime minister of India from July 1979 to August 1979 and was Member of Parliament (MP) for Baghpat. During prime ministership he was a member of the Janata Party (Secular). Singh also briefly served as deputy prime minister of India from January 1979 to July 1979 as a member of the Janata Party. Singh is widely regarded as the "Champion of farmers",after his life has been dedicated to advocating for the wellbeing and rights of farmers. He is the first leader outside the Indian National Congress who formed government in the northern India and became 5th chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

It was founded as an amalgam of Indian political parties opposed to the Emergency that was imposed between 1975 and 1977 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress. Chaudhary is a common surname in the Indian subcontinent,originally derived from an Indian hereditary title. "Chaudhary" is a term adapted from the Sanskrit word caturdhara,literally "holder of four". 'Chaudhary' was first bestowed by the various rulers of the Delhi Sultanate,and the custom was continued by the breakaway Bengal Sultanate. Later,the Mughals and the Nawabs conferred the same title in great numbers. Kushwaha is a community of the Indo-Gangetic Plain that has traditionally been involved in agriculture,including beekeeping. The term has been used to represent different sub-castes of the Kachhis,Kachhvahas,Koeris and Muraos. Under the Indian governments system of positive discrimination,the Kushwahas are classified as a "Backward" or Other backward class. The Kushwaha had worshipped Shiva and Shakta,but beginning in the 20th century,they claim descent from the Suryavansh (Solar) dynasty via Kusha,one of the twin sons of Rama and Sita. At present,it is a broad community formed by coming together of several caste groups with similar occupational backgrounds and socio-economic status,who,over the time,started inter-marrying among themselves and created all India caste network for caste solidarity. The communities which merged into this caste cluster includes Kachhi,Kachhwaha,Kushwaha,Mali,Marrar,Saini,Sonkar,Murai,Shakya,Maurya,Koeri and Panara.
Sanjaya Sinh,also known as Sanjay Singh,is an Indian politician and a former member of the Rajya Sabha. He was twice elected to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh during the 1980s and held state ministerial posts. In 1990,he became a member of the upper house of the Parliament of India,which is known as the Rajya Sabha,and in 1998 he was elected to the lower house,called the Lok Sabha. His term in the 12th Lok Sabha session lasted until the following year. Subsequently,in 2009,he was successful in obtaining a second term in that house as a member of the 15th Lok Sabha representing the Sultanpur constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He represented the state of Assam in the Rajya Sabha. He resigned from Rajya Sabha and Indian National Congress to join Bharatiya Janata Party on 30 July 2019.
Gangapuram Kishan Reddy is an Indian politician who is currently serving as Minister of Tourism,Culture and Development of North Eastern Region of India. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party since 1980. He is an MP representing Secunderabad since 2019. He served as the floor leader of the BJP in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 2009 and gave it up after being elected as the state BJP president of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. He was a Senior Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS),Delhi from 2004 to 2016. He is a former member of University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Advisory Council on Right to Education Act (NAC-RTE) constituted by Ministry of Human Resources and Development,Govt of India,in 2010. He was a member of the National Executive of the Aam Aadmi Party until 2015.

The Upper Backward Caste is a term used to describe the middle castes in Bihar,whose social and ritual status was not very low and which has traditionally been involved in the agricultural and animal husbandry related activities in the past. They have also been involved in low scale trade to some extent. The Koeri,Kurmi,Yadav and Bania are categorised as the upper-backwards amongst the Other Backward Class group;while the various other caste groups which constitutes the OBC,a group comprising 51% of the population of state of Bihar,has been classified as lower backwards. The upper-backwards also called upper OBC represents approximately 20.3% of the population of Bihar. These agricultural caste were the biggest beneficiaries of the land reform drive which was undertaken in the 1950s in the state and they strengthened their economic position by gaining a significant portion of excess land under the ceiling laws,which prohibited the ownership of land above a certain ceiling.
