Reggaeton is a modern style of popular and electronic music that originated in Panama during the late 1980s, and which rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s through a plethora of Puerto Rican musicians. It has evolved from dancehall, with elements of hip hop, Latin American, and Caribbean music. Vocals include toasting/rapping and singing, typically in Spanish.
Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, known professionally as Daddy Yankee, is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and actor who rose to worldwide prominence in 2004 with the song "Gasolina". Dubbed the "King of Reggaeton", he is often cited as an influence by other Hispanic urban performers. He retired on December 3, 2023, after completing his final stage performance on his "La Meta" tour in Puerto Rico.
Wisin & Yandel was a Puerto Rican reggaeton duo consisting of Wisin and Yandel. They started their career in 1998 and have been together until 2023, winning several awards including a Grammy Award in 2009. They became the first and the only reggaeton artists to win one. In late 2013, they announced they would take a pause in their career as a duo, after their Líderes Tour. In a 2014 interview with People en Español, Yandel confirmed that the group would not be disbanding. Barrio Fino is the third studio album by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, released on July 13, 2004, in the United States by VI Music and El Cartel Records and internationally by Machete Music and Polydor Records. Released two years after his previous studio album, El Cangri.com (2002), the album was recorded in Puerto Rico between 2003 and 2004. It explores themes ranging from dance, sex, romance, introspection, and protest against political corruption and violence against women. Barrio Fino was instrumental in popularizing reggaeton in the mainstream market, enhancing Daddy Yankee's career, as well as cementing his status as one of the most successful Latin artists of the 2000s. The album is reported to have sold over 8 million copies in the world.

Play-N-Skillz are a Latin/American record production/DJ group duo from Dallas, Texas, consisting of brothers Juan "Play" Salinas and Oscar "Skillz" Salinas. Líderes is the eighth studio album by Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel. The album was released on July 3, 2012. The album features collaborations of artist like Chris Brown, T-Pain, Jennifer Lopez, O’Neill, Franco "El Gorila" and Alberto Stylee, Timbaland. The album's track listing was confirmed by Universal on June 11, 2012. The album is a mixture of Latin pop, dance-pop, hip-hop, and reggaeton, and won the Lo Nuestro Award for Urban Album of the Year. It also the Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Rhythm Album of the Year in 2013.
"Limbo" is a song by Puerto Rican reggaeton recording artist Daddy Yankee from his sixth studio album Prestige (2012). It was produced by MadMusick, the duo of Giencarlos Rivera, and Jonathan Rivera, in partnership with Luny Tunes. The music video features ZumbaUnderground dancers Stephanie Hartgraves and Megan Phillips, Oceanside Ca. It was composed by Ramon Ayala, Elizier Palacios, Giencarlos Rivera, Jonathan Rivera, Francisco Saldaña and released as the fourth single from the album, following the commercial successes of "Ven Conmigo", "Lovumba" and "Pasarela". An official remix with Puerto Rican-duo Wisin & Yandel as well as a Spanglish version of the song were also later released. The song appears in dance games Just Dance 2014 and Zumba Fitness: World Party.
Eddie Alexander Ávila Ortiz, originally known by his stage name Eddie Dee, is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer and dancer of Dominican descent. He began his career in 1990 and launched his debut studio album three years later. His second album became popular in Puerto Rico and was titled Tagwut in 1997. It featured the hit single "Señor Official". His following releases El Terrorista de la Lírica (2000) and Biografía (2001), too enjoyed underground success. The 2004 album 12 Discípulos is regarded as "the greatest reggaetón various artist album of all time". The album features songs by some of the most successful reggaetón artist, including the intro of the album, where they all come together as one to show that "unity is needed for the genre reggaetón to survive and evolve". It was a collaboration between eleven other artist including Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon, Ivy Queen, and Vico C among others, who were among the most requested at the time. The track, known as "Los 12 Discípulos" or "Quítate Tu Pa' Ponerme Yo" reached number eight on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart, and was nominated for a 2005 Billboard Latin Music Award for "Tropical Airplay Track of the Year, New Artist". The album itself reached number one on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart for three nonconsecutive weeks.
Valerie Morales, also known simply as Valerie or Valerie Flow, is a Puerto Rican singer who has worked with a variety of musical performers including Daddy Yankee, Wisin Y Yandel, and Hector & Tito, among others. The Premios Tu Música Urbano is a music industry awards ceremony presented by television network Telemundo Puerto Rico to recognize artists who "transcended and boosted the success of Latin urban music around the world" for the past year.
