"Latigazo" (English: "Whiplash") is the debut single by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee from his second studio album El Cangri.com , released on June 20, 2002. [2] A music video for the song was released in order to promote the album. It has been cited as the first song by Daddy Yankee to receive significant airplay outside Puerto Rico. [3]

Writing for PopSugar , editor Celia Fernandez included "Latigazo" on her list of "25 Daddy Yankee Songs That We Can't Live Without" in July 2017. [4]

Music video

The music video for "Latigazo" was directed by Puerto Rican rapper and recording producer Eddie Dee, and was distributed by V.I. Music. [5] The video features a brief cameo of American basketball player Kobe Bryant. [6] An alternative version of the clip also includes other songs from El Cangri.com : "Son Las 12" and "Guayando" featuring Puerto Rican rapper Nicky Jam. [7]

El Cangri.com is the second studio album by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee. It was released in 2002 by VI Music. The album was a success in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic with songs "Latigazo", "Muévete y Perrea", "¡Dimelo!" and "Ella Está Soltera". "Latigazo" also received mainstream success in Spanish-language radio stations in Miami and New York City in the United States. According to Yankee himself, he manufactured and distributed the record and sold over 50,000 copies.

El Disco Duro is an unreleased and later cancelled studio album by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee. It was originally scheduled to be released during early 2017 under its original title King Daddy II: Elemento DY, a sequel to his previous album King Daddy, produced by Los de la Nazza, a production duo that worked with Daddy Yankee from 2007 to 2014. The album was to include "Sígueme y Te Sigo", "Dura", "Vaivén" and "Shaky Shaky" as singles, which were released between March 2015 and April 2016.

Described by him as "the album's flagship", the song was released on March 24, 2022, simultaneously with the record and alongside a music video directed by Dominican filmmaker Marlon Peña, which depics a newlywed couple joining a street party in Puerto Rico. It uses the chorus from the track "Báilame" (2006) by Puerto Rican duo Trébol Clan. It was written by Daddy Yankee, Dominican producer and Luny Tunes member Luny and Puerto Rican producers Eliel and Ovimael "OMB" Maldonado, while Puerto Rican rapper and lyricist Wise, producer DJ Joe and Trébol Clan members Periquito and Berto received songwriting credits for "Báilame". It was produced by Daddy Yankee and longtime collaborator Luny.
