Sarah Kanyike is a Ugandan politician, wo was appointed State Minister for the Elderly and the Disabled on 24 July 2020. [2] Before that, she was the Deputy Lord Mayor of the city of Kampala, Uganda, the capital and largest metropolitan area in the country. She was appointed to that position on 16 June 2016. [1] While serving as Deputy Lord Mayor, she concurrently represented Makindye East in the Kampala Capital City Authority Council. [3]

Background and education

Kanyike attended Kibuli Secondary School, before joining Makerere University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree. [1] She is a Muslim and wears Islamic clothing. [4]

Work experience

During the 2011 to 2016 political season, Sarah Kanyike served as the personal assistant to Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago. She also represented Makindye East in the KCCA Council from 2011 to 2016. In the past, she served as councilor for Makindye East while John Ssebaana Kizito was mayor, between 1998 and 2006. She has once unsuccessfully contested for the Makindye East Parliamentary seat. In June 2020, President Yoweri Museveni nominated Sarah Kanyike as the Director of gender at KCCA. Erias Lukwago, the Kampala Lord Mayor gave her three days to make up her mind; either take up the state appointment or stay as Deputy Lord Mayor. Kanyike chose to resign as Deputy Lord Mayor and Lukwago appointed Doreen Nyanjura as her replacement. [6] [7]

On 24 July 2020, the president re-directed that Kanyike be appointed to the cabinet docket of State Minister for the Elderly and Disability, which had been vacant. Reliable sources also disclosed that for one to become a director at Kampala Capital City Authority, one must possess a Master's degree. Kanyike only has a Bachelor's degree. Her appointment to cabinet was vetted by the Ugandan Parliament. [2] [6] [8]

Erias Lukwago Ssalongo, is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. He is the Lord Mayor of the city of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest metropolitan area in the country. He was elected to that position on 14 January 2011. He was voted out of office on 25 November 2013 by Councillors after a tribunal found him guilty of incompetence and abuse of office. The Kampala Capital City Authority councilors voted 29 to three to impeach him. He was re-instated on 28 November 2013 after the High Court Judge Yasin Nyanzi ordered Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze to stop the implementation of the tribunal report that paved way for his censure.

Charles Okello Macodwogo Engola,, commonly known as Charles Okello -Engola, is a Ugandan politician and retired Colonel in the Uganda People's Defence Force. He is the current State Minister for Defence in the Ugandan Cabinet. He was born to Chief (Jago) Nasan Engola and Ketula Engola of Awangi, in Iceme, Oyam district. Charles Okello-Engola is also the grandson of Rwot Olong Adilo, and also great grandson of Rwot Olwa Abelli of Iceme. He was appointed to the position of minister of state for defense on 6 June 2016, replacing General Jeje Odongo, who was appointed Cabinet Minister of Internal Affairs. Divisions of Kampala Place in Uganda

The city of Kampala, Uganda's capital, is administered by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). KCCA is administratively divided into five divisions, each headed by a mayor. The whole city is then headed by the Lord Mayor. The current Lord Mayor of Kampala is Erias Lukwago.

She also serves as the elected Local Council 5 (LCV) Woman Councillor, representing Makerere University at Kampala Capital City Authority, the governing body of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. She was elected to her present position in 2016.

Dorothy Kisaka, is a Ugandan lawyer and corporate executive who was appointed as the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority, on 12 June 2020. She replaces Jennifer Musisi, the founding executive director of KCCA, who resigned on 15 December 2018, and Engineer Andrew Mubiru Kitaka, who has been acting as Executive Director from December 2018 until June 2020.
