The Saviem JL was a range of heavy/medium trucks manufactured by the French manufacturer Saviem, a subsidiary of Renault. [1] [2]
The Saviem JL range was based on the JL range from Somua. The JL was initially powered by engines from Alfa Romeo, Panhard, and other suppliers. In 1961, it adopted a revised front with double head lamps [2] and was fitted with the Fulgur diesel engines [1] assembled at the Limoges factory, which would become part of Saviem.
In 1963, as part of Saviem's agreements, some JL models incorporated MAN engines, changing its denomination and forming the new JM range. [2] The ones which preserved the Fulgur engines were renamed as S (S9). The JL denomination was still sporadically used afterwards.
When built by Somua, the JL was offered with a variety of engines, including Renaults, Henschels and Alfa Romeos. [2] In 1961, Saviem began standardizing the use of two Fulgur diesel units of 4.8 and 6.8 litres with a power outputs of 100 and 150 hp (74 and 110 kW) respectively, although the heaviest JL20/200 kept using an 11-litre Henschel direct injection diesel producing 204 hp (150 kW) and the JL20 retained the 9.35-litre Panhard D615H (licensed by Lanova) diesel. [1] [3] The JL was replaced by the Saviem JM in 1964, with a more modern design and more powerful engines.

Berliet was a French manufacturer of automobiles, buses, trucks and military vehicles among other vehicles based in Vénissieux, outside of Lyon, France. Founded in 1899, and apart from a five-year period from 1944 to 1949 when it was put into 'administration sequestre' it was in private ownership until 1967 when it then became part of Citroën, and subsequently acquired by Renault in 1974 and merged with Saviem into a new Renault Trucks company in 1978. The Berliet marque was phased out by 1980.
Multijet is Fiat and General Motors joint venture in manufacturer since 1996 common rail direct injection turbo diesel diesel engine technology. Most of the Fiat S.p.A., Fiat Professional, Groupe PSA, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, Chrysler, Chevrolet, Daewoo Motors, Cadillac, Karsan, Temsa, Iveco, Jeep, Opel, Vauxhall Motors, RAM Trucks, Mitsubishi Fuso, Maruti Suzuki, Suzuki, Tata Motors and Saab Automobile branded vehicles are equipped with Multijet engines. Ownership of some Fiat Multijet designs is shared with General Motors as part of a settlement of the failed merger between the two auto conglomerates. The GM Powertrain Torino group in Turin, Italy, manages its interest in these engines. Some PSA Peugeot Citroën diesel engines are also rebadged JTD units, and vice versa. Fiat's common-rail diesel engine is also known as JTD, an initialism of UniJet Turbo Diesel.
The Alfa Romeo 166 is an executive car produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo, between 1996 and June 2007. The car was designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, under the control of Walter de Silva, and was facelifted in September 2003.
Somua, an acronym for Société d'outillage mécanique et d'usinage d'artillerie, was a French company that manufactured machinery and vehicles. A subsidiary of Schneider-Creusot, Somua was based in Saint-Ouen, a suburb of Paris.
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta is a hatchback manufactured and marketed by Alfa Romeo, as a 5-door subcompact executive car. Production started near the end of 2009 and the model was introduced at the March 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The Giulietta placed second in the 2011 European Car of the Year awards. Between 2010 and 2019, production reached over 400,000. In 2020, Alfa Romeo announced that they were going to axe the Giulietta and production ended on 22 December 2020 spanning 10 years of sales from a period of 2010 to 2020. In total 469,067 examples were produced until 2020.
The Société Anonyme de Véhicules Industriels et d'Équipements Mécaniques, commonly known by the acronym Saviem, was a French manufacturer of trucks and buses/coaches part of the Renault group, headquartered in Suresnes, Île-de-France. The company was established in 1955 by merging Renault heavy vehicle operations with Somua and Latil and disappeared in 1978 when was merged with former rival Berliet to form Renault Véhicules Industriels.
The Renault R312 is a bus manufactured by Renault Trucks from 1987 to 1996. A prototype was completed in 1984. It succeeded the SC 10, which was originally a Saviem design from the 1960s.
Sofim is a joint diesel engine enterprise established between Fiat, Saviem (Renault) and Alfa Romeo on 13 September 1974 and was bought by Iveco in 1981. The manufacturing plant is located in Foggia in southern Italy and is nowadays Fiat Powertrain Technologies largest engine plant covering an area of approximately 540,000 square metres (5,800,000 sq ft).

The Renault Super Goélette is a van from the small commercial vehicle range manufactured by Saviem and marketed by Renault from 1965 to 1970, then from 1971 to 1980 by Saviem and finally by Renault Véhicules Industriels (RVI) between 1980 and 1982.
The Renault R-series was a range of heavy-duty trucks built by Renault Véhicles Industrielles (RVI) from 1980 until 1996. The cabin was Berliet's KB 2400 model, originally introduced in 1970 for their GR/TR range. The fusion of Saviem and Berliet into RVI brought with it a consolidation of the lineups, although the Saviem and Berliet badges continued to be used for some time. The KB 2400 cabin was also used by Ford Transcontinental. The R-series ranged from the smallest R280 to the V8-powered R420.
The Saviem Super Galion is a truck under 6 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW) produced by the French manufacturer Saviem between 1965 and 1982. It was also marketed as the Renault Super Galion.

The Latil H14 and H16 A1 is a range of medium-duty/heavy-duty trucks with a forward control design for road transport produced by French manufacturer Latil and later Saviem. The Latil H14 and H16 A1 were the last road trucks of Latil origin produced by Saviem. The range was heavily modularised, with standardised pieces and mostly using just a couple of engines throughout its run.
The Berliet GR and TR was a family of heavy trucks manufactured by Berliet in two generations; the original design was first introduced in 1961 and the second generation, using the all-new square KB 2400 cabin, was introduced at the 1970 Paris Salon. The GR/TR was replaced by the Renault R-series in 1980, essentially just a facelifted version still using the KB 2400 cab.
