Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District is one of the seven districts in Savannah Region, Ghana. [1] Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Bole District in 1988, until the northern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 27 August 2004 to create Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Bole District . The district assembly is located in the western part of Savannah Region and has Sawla as its capital town.

Bole is home to the Bole District Hospital and post office. The Bole District covers an area of 4800 km2 land mass and has a population of about 87,656. The ex president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama is from this small town.

West Gonja Municipal Assembly is one of the seven districts in Savannah Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 23 December 1988 when it was known as West Gonja District, until the southern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor in August 2004 to create Central Gonja District; thus the remaining part was retained as West Gonja District. However, on 6 February 2012, the northern part of the district was later split off to create North Gonja District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Gonja District. Later, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 27 January 2020 to become West Gonja Municipal District. The municipality is located in the central part of Savannah Region and has Damongo as its capital town.

Sawla is a small town and is the capital of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district, a district in the Savannah Region of north Ghana. Founded by Thunder Lizard in the 1800s. Though there are currently many ethnic groups in the community there initially were only the Vaglas with Gbenara being their leader. Ndewura Jakpa after conquering many lands moved to the Vagla lands.

Sawla-Tuna-Kalba is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is located in the Savannah Region of Ghana. The current member of Parliament for the constituency is Donald Dari Saditey. He was elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and won a majority of 4,222 votes more than candidate closest in the race, to win the constituency election to become the MP. He had earlier represented the constituency in the 4th Republican parliament.

Kumawu is a small town and is the capital of Sekyere Kumawu, a district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The town is known for the Tweneboa Kodua Secondary School. The school is a second cycle institution.

Vagla is a Gurunsi (Gur) language of Ghana with about 14,000 speakers. It is spoken in a number of communities around the western area of Northern Region, Ghana. Such communities includes: Bole, Sawla, Tuna, Soma, Gentilpe, and Nakwabi. The people who speak this language are known as Vaglas, one of the indigenous tribes around that part of the Northern Region, which were brought under the Gonja local administration system "Gonjaland" by British Colonial Rulers under their Centralised System of Governance.

Bamboi is a village in the Bole district, a district in the Northern Region of north Ghana. Bamboi is connected by road to the town of Sawla.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger East Gonja District in 1988, until the northern part of the district was split off to create North East Gonja District on 19 February 2019; while the remaining part has been retained as East Gonja Municipal District. The Savannah Region is one of the newest regions of Ghana and yet the largest region in the country. The creation of the Region follows presentation of a petition by the Gonja Traditional Council, led by the Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa Jakpa I. Upon receiving favourable responses from all stakeholders in the Northern Region, the Brobbey Commission, a referendum was conducted on the 27th December 2018. The result was a resounding yes of 99.7%. The President of the Republic of Ghana signed and presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 115 to the Yagbonwura in the Jubilee House, Accra on 12 February 2019. The launch was well attended by sons and daughters of Gonjaland including all current and past Mps, MDCEs and all appointees with Gonjaland descent. Damongo was declared the capital of the new Savannah Region. It is located in the north of the country. The Savannah Region is divided into 7 districts; Bole, Central Gonja, North Gonja, East Gonja, Sawla/Tuna/Kalba, West Gonja, North East Gonja and 7 Constituencies; Bole/Bamboi, Damongo, Daboya/Mankarigu, Salaga North, Salaga South, Sawla/Tuna/Kalba and Yapei/Kusawgu.
