Entertainment Weekly's Michael Slezak wrote "Meanwhile, ballads like the understated Scars and the bluesy Trouble Is separate Iraheta from questionably abled Miley/Selena contemporaries. Girl. Can. Sang!". [4]
Kelsey Paine from Billboard.com agreed writing "soulful tunes like "Scars" and the bluesy "Trouble Is" showcase the raw talent that made Iraheta a star on "Idol" and set her apart from other young pop upstarts." [5]
AOL Radio writer Sara D Anderson praises Scars, noting "'Scars' is one of the many songs (others 'Robot Love,' 'Trouble Is' and 'Friday I'll Be Over U') critically appraised off her debut album that showcases her husky yet powerful vocals and spunky attitude." [6]
Iraheta performed the song on February 25, 2010, on the Top 24 elimination episode of the ninth season of American Idol . [7] She also performed an acoustic version of the song on JoJo Wright's radio show JoJo on the Radio on KIIS-FM. [8] Due to Iraheta's popularity in Asia, Iraheta also headlined concerts in Manila and Bali, performing 'Scars' at both. [9]

"Piece by Piece" is a song written by American singer Kelly Clarkson taken from her seventh studio album of the same name. She co-wrote the track with its producer Greg Kurstin. A midtempo pop song about restoring someone's faith in love and family relationships, Clarkson promulgated "Piece by Piece" as a sequel to the song "Because of You" (2004) but with a "happy ending". After a discussion with her sister about their family life, she introspectively co-wrote the song in a first-person narrative to her father, whose neglect of his family was used as a juxtaposition to her husband's unconditional love for her and their daughter, whom they both promised to never abandon.
