Scott Alexander Brown (born 28 December 1972) is a Glasgow-born Scottish disc jockey and music producer, [1] now living in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Brown produces and plays a variety of genres, although he is most associated with bouncy techno. His music ranges from happy hardcore, through hard trance, to gabber. He is the founder of Evolution Records, which started in 1994.

Music production

Brown has produced music on his own record labels (Evolution Records, Evolution Plus, Evolved, Evolution Gold, Poosh, Screwdriver and Twisted Vinyl), and under a range of monikers including Plus System, The Scotchman, Interstate, Bass-X (with his brother Stewart), and with his band Q-Tex, which was formed in 1991. Releases and album appearances

Brown's tracks and mixing has been featured on several releases of the Bonkers compilation series. [5] Brown has also appeared on the compilation albums of Dancemania's Speed series. His first appearance on the series was on the third issue of the series in 1999. He later appeared on Trance Ravers . [1]

In November 1996 Brown performed a Peel Session on BBC Radio 1. [6] In 2005, his release "Elysium" was given a trance remix by Liverpool dance trio Ultrabeat featuring vocals by Rebecca Rudd. This version was released with a subtitle as "Elysium (I Go Crazy)" to signal the addition of vocals. The single peaked at #35 in the UK Singles Chart. [7] Later, in May, his song "Go Berzerk" was included in the PlayStation 2 release of Beatmania IIDX 11 IIDXRED , which was not present on the arcade version or audio releases of the game.[ citation needed ]

In 2008, Brown released a new song, album and DVD called Livewired. [4] In 2009 two of Brown's tracks, "Commence (Sy & Unknown Mix)" and "Digital Distortion Works!" (A collaboration between Brown and Neophyte) were featured on an episode of Top Gear in which Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson glues a CD into James May’s car stereo system as well as gluing the volume knob at maximum, leaving James unable to turn the volume down or take the CD out. In March 2016, Brown collaborated with German Eurodance DJ and producer Special D. to create a new, updated version of "Elysium", also featuring Rebecca Rudd's vocals from Ultrabeat's version. It was released over two digital EPs featuring remixes from several artists, including a UK Hardcore remix by Scott Brown himself which contains samples and inspiration from Brown's original 1999 version.

Happy hardcore, also known as 4-beat or happycore, is a subgenre of hardcore dance music or "hard dance". It emerged both from the UK breakbeat hardcore rave scene, and Belgian, German and Dutch hardcore techno scenes in the early 1990s. The thing that makes happy hardcore stand apart from Gabber, is that happy hardcore tends to have breakbeats running alongside the 4/4 kick drum.

"3 a.m. Eternal" is a song by British acid house group the KLF, taken from their fourth and final studio album, The White Room (1991). Numerous versions of the song were released as singles between 1989 and 1992 by their label KLF Communications. The Bonkers series was one of the leading happy hardcore compilation series in the UK. The first release was in 1996 on the record label React. It was available on 2xCD and 2xTC formats. DJs Sharkey and Hixxy were signed by React, and they released "Bonkers", the first in a series of albums that has become the best-selling hardcore compilation series of all time. As of 11 May 2009, the series had reached its nineteenth release, titled Bonkers: The Original Hardcore.

Flip & Fill are an English electronic dance music duo, based in Manchester, England, consisting of the producers/remixers, DJs Graham Turner and Mark Hall. They are signed to the Filtrate record label.

Bang! are a British happy hardcore group from the late 1990s originally consisting of producer Nick Arnold, Tom Orton and female vocalist Donna Grassie. Nick Arnold and Tom Orton had previously been a members of the band Smart E's, who reached 2 in the UK in 1992 with their cover of the theme tune to Sesame Street entitled Sesame's Treat. After the release of "Cloudy Daze" which featured Donna, Tom Orton brought Jo James to the attention of Nick after a contact of Tom's, Jo's husband, presented to him a demo of his wife singing.

Our Happy Hardcore is the second studio album by German dance group Scooter. The European release date for the album was 28 March 1996. Three singles were released from the album, starting with "Back in the U.K." in November 1995 and "Let Me Be Your Valentine" in February 1996. The final single, a cover version of the Billy Idol song "Rebel Yell", followed in May 1996. The mostly instrumental "Crank It Up" is notable for its use as the theme tune for the Bruno segments in Da Ali G Show.

Darren James Mew, better known as Darren Styles, is an English music producer, DJ, singer and songwriter from Colchester, Essex. Originally a member of the breakbeat hardcore group DJ Force & the Evolution, Styles found success during the 1990s as one half of Force & Styles. The duo were pioneers of happy hardcore and wrote several well-known songs such as "Heart of Gold", "Pretty Green Eyes" and "Paradise & Dreams".

Clubland is a brand created by the UK dance record labels All Around the World and Universal Music TV. Since 2002 Clubland has made many dance compilation albums, including the popular Clubland series, which ended on the album, Clubland 2017, released on 4 November 2016. Clubland also hosts live events in various nightclubs and clubland Ibiza, and in 2008 many Clubland artists featured on the Clubland Night of Your Life arena tour.
