Scott Fuchs is an American football coach and former player who is the assistant offensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He previously spent three decades coaching at the college level, including offensive line stints at Kansas, Buffalo, Wyoming, and North Dakota State. He played college football as an offensive guard at North Dakota State, where he was a first-team AFCA All-American and a member of the 1990 NCAA Division II national championship team. [1]
Fuchs grew up in Minot, North Dakota. [1] He played college football at North Dakota State University, where he was a three–year starter at offensive guard. As a senior in 1993, he was named to the AFCA first-team All-America squad. [1] During his career, the Bison won three consecutive North Central Conference rushing titles, and he helped the program capture conference championships in 1990, 1991, and 1992. The 1990 team also won the NCAA Division II national championship. [1]
After his playing career ended, Fuchs began his coaching career at North Dakota State as a graduate assistant working with the tight ends from 1994 to 1996. [1]
After his graduate assistant stint at North Dakota State, Fuchs was hired as the offensive line coach at Valley City State University from 1997 to 1998. [1] He then spent the 1999 season coaching the defensive line at Wisconsin–Eau Claire, the only season of his career in which he did not coach the offensive line. [1]
From 2000 to 2002, Fuchs coached the offensive line at Minnesota–Crookston. [1] He moved to Nebraska–Omaha as offensive line coach from 2003 to 2006 and then spent the 2007 season coaching the offensive line at Grand Valley State. [1] In 2008, he coached the offensive line at Southern Illinois University. [1]
Fuchs returned to his alma mater in 2009 as offensive line coach for the North Dakota State Bison. From 2011 to 2013, the Bison compiled a 43–2 record and won three consecutive FCS national titles. [1] During that span, Fuchs coached consensus first-team All-America offensive tackle Billy Turner, who went on to be selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins. [1]
From 2014 to 2018, Fuchs served as offensive line coach at the University of Wyoming. [1] He helped develop All-America center Chase Roullier, who later became a starter in the NFL with the Washington Commanders. His line also paved the way for running back Brian Hill, who rushed for a school-record 4,287 career yards. In 2016, the Cowboys averaged 35.9 points per game, ranking second in the Mountain West Conference and 25th nationally in scoring offense. [1]
Fuchs was hired as offensive line coach at the University at Buffalo for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. [1] Under his guidance, the Bulls' offensive line unit was a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award in both seasons. In 2020, Buffalo ranked second in the nation in rushing yards per game (287.4) and allowed only one sack all season, tying for the fewest in the country. [1] Three starting offensive linemen earned All-MAC honors, and tackle Kayode Awosika was named a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America. Fuchs was one of five finalists for the 2020 FootballScoop Offensive Line Coach of the Year Award and was nominated for the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach. [1]
In 2021, Fuchs joined Lance Leipold's staff at the University of Kansas as offensive line coach. [1] During his three seasons with the Jayhawks, his players earned a total of seven All-Big 12 selections, including two-time All-Big 12 tackle Dominick Puni and three-time All-Big 12 center Mike Novitsky. [1] Tackle Earl Bostick Jr. also earned All-Big 12 recognition before signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL draft. [1]
In 2022, the Kansas offensive line helped power one of the highest-scoring offenses in school history at 35.6 points per game as the Jayhawks reached the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, their first bowl appearance since 2008. [1] The following year, Kansas finished 8–4, secured a second consecutive bowl berth (the Guaranteed Rate Bowl), and produced the fourth-ranked rushing offense in the Big 12 at 211.3 yards per game while allowing only 15 sacks. [1]
On February 8, 2024, Fuchs was hired by the Tennessee Titans as assistant offensive line coach. [1] In his first season with the team, he helped develop first-round pick JC Latham, who started all 17 games at left tackle as a rookie. Second-year left guard Peter Skoronski also started every game, while right guard Dillon Radunz set a career high with 15 starts. [1]
Fuchs entered his second season with Tennessee in 2025, continuing to work with the team's offensive linemen under head coach Brian Callahan. [1]
Fuchs earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education and social science education from North Dakota State University in 1995 and a master's degree in education with a specialization in physical education and athletic administration from NDSU in 1997.
