Gloucester County is a county in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 census,the county was the state's 14th-most populous county with a population of 302,294,its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 14,006 (+4.9%) from the 288,288 counted in the 2010 census,which in turn represented an increase of 33,615 (+13.2%) from the 2000 census population of 254,673. Its county seat is Woodbury. The county is part of the South Jersey region of the state.

The 2009 New Jersey gubernatorial election took place on November 3,2009. Incumbent Democratic Governor Jon Corzine ran for a second term against Republican Chris Christie,Independent Christopher Daggett,and nine others,in addition to several write-in candidates. Christie won the election,with about 48.5 percent of the vote,to 44.9 percent for Corzine and 5.8 percent for Daggett. He assumed office on January 19,2010. This was the first election to fill the newly created office of lieutenant governor,with the candidates for governor choosing their running mates. Kim Guadagno,Christie's running mate,became New Jersey's first lieutenant governor following her inauguration.
A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Jersey on November 3,2009. Primary elections were held on June 2. Most state positions were up in this election cycle,which includes all 80 seats in the New Jersey General Assembly,as well as Governor and Lieutenant Governor. In addition to the State Legislative elections,numerous county offices and freeholders in addition to municipal offices were up for election. There was one statewide ballot question. Some counties and municipalities may have had local ballot questions as well. Non-partisan local elections,some school board elections,and some fire district elections also happened throughout the year.

Former U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg was elected to an open seat over Republican businessman Doug Forrester after incumbent Senator Robert Torricelli dropped out of the race on September 30,facing ethical misconduct allegations,a formal admonishment by the U.S. Senate,and falling poll numbers against Forrester.
Gilbert L. "Whip" Wilson is an American Democratic Party politician who has been the sheriff of Camden County,New Jersey since December 2015. He served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2010. when he was selected by party leaders to fill the vacant seat of Donald Norcross who had moved up to the New Jersey Senate,until December 2015 when he resigned in order to take office as sheriff. While in the Assembly,he represented the 5th Legislative District. Wilson was a councilman at-large in the City of Camden from 1997 to 2000 and again from 2005 to 2010.
John J. Matheussen is an American Republican Party politician. He served in the New Jersey Senate from 1992 to 2003,where he represented the 4th Legislative District.
New Jersey's 4th legislative district is one of 40 in the state. As of the 2021 apportionment,the district covers the Camden County municipalities of Chesilhurst,Gloucester Township,Waterford,and Winslow Township;the Gloucester County municipalities of Franklin Township,Monroe Township,Newfield Borough,and Washington Township;and the Atlantic County municipalities of Buena and Buena Vista.

Edward H. Thomson III is an American Republican Party politician who represented the 30th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly from August 24,2017 to January 9,2024. He replaced Dave Rible,who left office to serve as Director of the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Thomson had previously served as mayor of Wall Township. He has served since 2022 as the Minority Conference Leader in the General Assembly.
