The Second Federal Electoral District of Nayarit(II Distrito Electoral Federal de Nayarit) is one of the 300 Electoral Districts into which Mexico is divided for the purpose of elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of three such districts in the state of Nayarit.
Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, is a country in the southern portion of North America. The Chamber of Deputies is the lower house of the Congress of the Union, the bicameral legislature of Mexico. The other chamber is the Senate. The structure and responsibilities of both chambers of Congress are defined in Articles 50 to 70 of the current constitution.
Nayarit, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Nayarit, is one of the 31 states which, together with the Mexico City, make up the 32 federal entities of Mexico. It is divided in 20 municipalities and its capital city is Tepic.
It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period, by means of the first past the post system.
Nayarit's Second District is located in the centre of the state and covers the municipality of Tepic. [1]
The district's head town (cabecera distrital), where results from individual polling stations are gathered together and collated, is the state capital, the city of Tepic.
Tepic is the capital and largest city of the western Mexican state of Nayarit.
Between 1996 and 2005, Nayarit's Second District covered the municipality of Tepic, plus the municipalities of El Nayar and La Yesca. [2]
Municipalities are the second-level administrative divisions of Mexico, where the first-level administrative division is the state. As of the establishment of two new municipalities in Chiapas in September 2017, there are 2,448 municipalities in Mexico, not including the 16 delegaciones of Mexico City. The internal political organization and their responsibilities are outlined in the 115th article of the 1917 Constitution and detailed in the constitutions of the states to which they belong.
El Nayar is a municipality in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The population was 30,551 in 2005 in a total area of 5,100 km². The municipal seat of Jesús María had a population of 1,520 in 2005. El Nayar is the home of the Huichol, Cora, and the Tepehuán Indians have adapted El Nayar.
