The knitted tuque worn by Selma Traskvist, the main character, in the series led to a temporary knitting boom. [2]

The series was later sold to France, the Netherlands, Russia, the Czech Republic [3] and Slovakia. [4]

Plot

The series is inspirerd by steampunk and set a fictional era, inspired by the early 20th century [5]

It follows Selma Traskvist, an 8 years old young girl who goes out on an adventure in the airship "Valborg" from Sweden to the Arctic along with quirky professor Efraim von Trippelhatt trying to find Santa Claus. [6]

Yvonne Lombard is a Swedish actress. Born in Stockholm, Lombard studied at the Royal Dramatic Theatre ("Dramaten") there, where she trained between 1948 and 1951 with the likes of Max von Sydow and Ingrid Thulin. She has performed in several films, television series and in the theatre. Perhaps she is best known for her collaboration with director Ingmar Bergman in A Lesson in Love. Musikhjälpen is the Swedish version of the Dutch Serious Request radio and television campaign. The annual show is an appeal for money which each year helps a certain cause. Three radio/television personalities are locked inside a glass house for 144 hours, and they broadcast live on Swedish public service radio network Sveriges Radio and on public services television through SVT. People send text messages requesting a song, with each text costing 50, 100, 200, or 500 Swedish kronor. In later years, a Musikhjälpen-app has been used for requesting songs as well.

Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlöf was a Swedish author. She published her first novel, Gösta Berling's Saga, at the age of 33. She was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, which she was awarded in 1909. Additionally, she was the first woman to be granted a membership in the Swedish Academy in 1914.

Erika Maria Grahm is a Swedish retired ice hockey forward and current general manager of Brynäs IF Dam in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). During her playing career, she was a two-time Olympian with the Swedish national ice hockey team. Barna Hedenhös is the name of a series of Swedish children's books in the 1950s written by Bertil Almqvist. The story is set in the Stone Age and follows the Hedenhös family. Barna Hedenhös is mostly known as a book series, but Almqvist also made an animated television series about the Hedenhös family that was broadcast on SVT in 1972. Additionally, Almqvist made a comic version of the Hedenhös books for the comic book Tuff och Tuss during the 1950s; the comic version was later remade for the Pelle Svanslös children's comic book in the 1970s.

Koppången is a Swedish song, with music composed originally for violin in 1998 by Per-Erik Moraeus for his folk music group Orsa Spelmän, which includes his brothers Kalle Moraeus and Olle Moraeus. The name and the inspiration for the song come from the wetlands and nature preserve Koppången, near the Moraeus family home in Orsa Municipality, Dalarna, Sweden.
