Shakuntala Mishra is an Indian writer. She is a prominent writer in Nagpuri language. She has written many books in Nagpuri including Nagpuri Sadani Vyakaran a grammar book of Nagpuri, Sadani Nagpuri-Hindi Sabdkosh a dictionary of Nagpuri, Sato Nadi Par a story. Her books are included in university Nagpuri studies. She has been awarded Jharkhand Ratna, Praful Samman, Prernasrot Samman by Doordarshan Ranchi, Katha Samman by Government of Jharkhand, Bidushi Samman by Government of Bihar. [1]

Life

Early life

She was born in Gumla district of Bihar (Now Jharkhand) into a Brahmin family. Her mother tongue was Nagpuri. Her grandmother used to tell her various stories. She started writing the stories as a child. Then Jai Jharkhand Magazine was published by Dr. Bisheshwar Prasad Keshari from Daltonganj. Her writing was published in the magazine. She wrote her first poem Nehak Doir and it was aired in Aakashvani in 1982. Then she wrote Sukhu Kahani which was based on witchcraft and it was published in Magazine Pajhra which was edited by Girdhari Ram Gonjhu. At that time only Master of Arts course was available in Nagpuri. Despite opposition from her family members, she studied Nagpuri in M.A. She wanted to do something for her language. When she was in M.A final, her written Sukhu Kahani was included in course. Then her work Pardesi Beta was published during her studies. [2]

Career

She worked in Baldev Sahu Mahavidyalaya in Lohardaga for five years. Her maternal great-grandfather Pradumnath Pathak was a Nagpuri poet. His poetry was a subject of discussion in the family. His father Jageshwar Mishra encouraged her in writing. Then she started work in Nagpuri. She prepared a Nagpuri-Hindi dictionary. Then she wrote Nagpuri Vyakran, the grammar. Her published story Sato Nadi Par was included in the Nagpuri Bachelor of Arts course. When she was student, no books were available in Nagpuri. The study of Nagpuri was conducted with manuscripts. She told Balu Kherwar who was raised in her house to collect manuscripts of different poets and writers. She published books by collecting manuscripts. In 2007, a shop was opened by name of Jharkhand Jharokha and selling of books started under the name of Jharkhand Jharokha publication. The publication published more than 100 books. The shop is notable for books in regional and tribal languages of Jharkhand. [2]

She has been awarded Jharkhand Ratna, Prernasrot Samman by Doordarshan Ranchi, Katha Samman by Govt. of Jharkhand, Bidushi Samman by Govt. of Bihar. [1] In 2022, She was awarded Praful Samman by Nagpuri Bhasha Parishad which is given for excellent works in Nagpuri language. [3] [4]

He was awarded Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of literature and education in the Jharkhand posthumously in 2022.

Sahani Upendra Pal Singh was an Indian writer. He was one of the prominent writers in the Nagpuri-language in the modern period. He translated "Ram Charit Manas" in Nagpuri. He wrote around 20 books in nagpuri. He was awarded "Jharkhand Ratna", "Praful Samman", "Seva Ratna" and "BCCL Koyal Bharti Rajbhasha award".

Nagpuri literature refers to literature in the Nagpuri language, the language of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The earliest literature started in the nagpuri language when the Nagvanshi king and king of Ramgarh Raj started writing poetry in the 17th century. Since then, various literature has been written. Although in the present century, Nagpuri was never considered worthy of literary development. But some dedicated writers have engaged in writing short stories, plays and poetry.

Bhuneshwar Anuj (1936–2021) was an Indian journalist, writer and scholar. He is known for his journalism and scholarly works in the Nagpuri language. He also has a prominent role in the separate state movement of Jharkhand. He was central adviser of Lok Seva Samiti.

Shravan Kumar Goswami was a prominent writer and scholar of Hindi and Nagpuri language. He was professor of Hindi at Ranchi University. He was awarded Radhakrishna Award for his Hindi novel Jangal Tantram.

Praful Kumar Rai was an Indian writer. He was one of the prominent writers of the Nagpuri-language in the modern period. He had a prominent role in publication in the Nagpuri language and in the formation of Nagpuri Bhasha Parishad in 1960.

Raman Gupta is an Indian actor, dancer and singer. He works in Nagpuri albums, Nagpuri films and Khortha film. He also acted in many hindi films. He is known for the Nagpuri film Sun Sajna, Deva Rikshawala and Gangwa. He was awarded best regional actor award in Jharkhand International Film Festival Awards in 2018 and Best Evergreen Actor in Jhollywood Award Show in 2022.

Lohra is a community found in Jharkhand. They are traditionally associated with works of iron smelting.

Mahavir Nayak, is a nagpuri singer and songwriter. He is an exponent of Theth Nagpuri music, which is a genre of typical Nagpuri music, based on traditional Nagpuri folk music. He is the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award (2022), Lok Kala Ratna Award (2014) and Praful Samman (2019) for his contribution in folk music.
