Shamsul Hoque Tuku (born 31 May 1948) [1] is a Awami League politician and incumbent Deputy speaker of Member of Parliament. He is the former Ministry of Home Affairs of Government of Bangladesh for in the second Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government. [2] Tuku was elected to Parliament from Pabna-1 in 2008, 2014, 2018 and 2024. [3] [4]
Tuku was born on 31 May 1948. He has master's degrees in communication, arts, and law. [5] He is a lawyer. [6]
Tuku was elected to Parliament for the first time in the ninth Bangladesh parliamentary election, in 2008, representing constituency Pabna-1. [7] In July 2009, he was appointed as a State Minister for the Home Ministry by the cabinet council of the Bangladesh Government. [8] His house in Pabna district, which was rented out to the local passport office, was fire damaged by members of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 2013. [9]
Tuku was re-elected to Parliament in the tenth Bangladesh parliamentary election, in 2014. [6] He is a member of three Parliamentary standing committees: Ministry of Home Affairs; Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; and Public Accounts. [10] On 28 August 2022, he has been selected for the vacant post of Deputy Speaker of Jatiyo Sangsad. [11]
Tuku's brother, Abdul Baten, is the mayor of Bera Municipality. In October 2020, Baten was accused of "misbehaving" with the upazila nirbahi officer. [12]
Motiur Rahman Nizami was a politician, former Minister of Bangladesh, Islamic scholar, writer, and the former leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He is noted for leading the terror squad Al-Badr during the Bangladesh Liberation War. On 29 October 2014, he was convicted of masterminding the Demra massacre by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. Nizami was the Member of Parliament for the Pabna-1 constituency from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006. He also served as the Bangladeshi Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Industry.
Mohammed Nasim was a Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as the Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Health and Family Welfare for the Government of Bangladesh respectively during 1999–2001 and 2014–2019.
