Shannon Lee (born 1992) [1] [2] is a Canadian-American violinist. She won fourth prize at the 2019 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, Belgium, top prize at the Sendai International Music Competition in Sendai, Japan, and second prize at the International Naumburg Competition. [3] [4]

Biography

Born in Canada to engineer parents, Lee started the violin at the age of 4 in Plano, Texas. [5] [4] At age 8, she started studying with Jan Mark Sloman. [4] [5] Lee debuted at the age of 12 with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and two years later performed with Christof Perick and the Nuremberg Philharmonic. In 2013, she earned a bachelor's degree in computer science at Columbia University, where she also studied with David Nadien, former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. [3] [4] In 2016 Lee earned a Performance Diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Ida Kavafian and Arnold Steinhardt. [1] During her time in Philadelphia, she worked under the mentorship of Mary Javian as a Curtis ArtistYear Fellow, helping to support music programs for Cramp Elementary and high school students with help from the All City Orchestra chamber music programs. [5] Lee is a founding member of the Bicycle String Trio. [3] In 2018, she entered the Cleveland Institute of Music for a Master of Music degree, studying with Jan Sloman and Jaime Laredo. [4]

Lee has performed with the Nashville Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Fresno Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Nuremberg Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony, Lewisville Lake Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, and Phoenix Symphony. Leonidas Kavakos is a Greek violinist and conductor. As a conductor, he was an artistic director of the Camerata Salzburg and has been a guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Sirena Huang is an American concert violinist. She has received numerous awards, including First Prize at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, First Prize at the Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition, First Place at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, and Third Place at the Singapore International Violin Competition and the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition. She has performed with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Huang was appointed as the first Artist-in-Residence of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in 2011.

Chen Jiafeng is a Chinese violinist. He was the first prize winner in the 2003 International Competition for Young Violinists K. Lipinski and H. Wieniawski and the second prize winner in the 2008 International Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition, and the second prize of the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki.

Frank Xin Huang is a Chinese-born American violinist and teacher. Since 2015 he has been the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Previous to his position in New York, Huang was the first violinist of the Ying Quartet and a professor of violin and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music, then served as the concertmaster of the Houston Symphony from 2010 to 2015. He has won several international music competitions, most notably the 2003 Naumburg Competition. Huang has concertized widely as a soloist, and his debut recording on Naxos was critically acclaimed.

Nikki Chooi is an American-Canadian classical violinist. He is the winner of the 2013 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand. and Laureate of the 2012 Queen Elisabeth Music Competition. Nikki was a member of the cross-over ensemble, Time for Three, during the 2015/2016 season and subsequently served as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York for the 2016/2017 season.
