Interstate 35 (I-35) is a major Interstate Highway in the central United States. As with most interstates that end in a five, it is a major cross-country, north-south route. It stretches from Laredo, Texas, near the Mexican border to Duluth, Minnesota, at Minnesota State Highway 61 and 26th Avenue East. The highway splits into I-35E and I-35W in two separate places, the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex in Texas and at the Minnesota twin cities of Minneapolis–Saint Paul.
Johnson County is the most populous county in the U.S. State of Kansas. Largely suburban, the county contains a number of suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri including Overland Park, the second most populous city in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Its county seat is Olathe. As of the 2010 census, the county population was 544,179 with a 2019 estimate of 602,401 making it the most populous county in Kansas. It is home to the headquarters of Garmin and AMC Theatres and was home to the Sprint Corporation before its merger with T-Mobile in 2020.
U.S. Route 69 (US 69) is a major north–south United States highway. When it was first created, it was only 150 miles (241 km) long, but it has since been expanded into a Minnesota to Texas cross-country route. The highway's southern terminus is in Port Arthur, Texas at an intersection with State Highway 87. Its northern terminus is in Albert Lea, Minnesota at Minnesota State Highway 13.
Interstate 435 (I-435) is an Interstate Highway beltway that encircles much of the Kansas City metropolitan area within the states of Kansas and Missouri in the United States.
U.S. Route 71 or U.S. Highway 71 is a major north–south United States highway that extends for over 1500 miles (2500 km) in the central United States. This original 1926 route has remained largely unchanged by encroaching Interstate highways. Currently, the highway's northern terminus is in International Falls, Minnesota at the Canada–US border, at the southern end of the Fort Frances-International Falls International Bridge to Fort Frances, Ontario. U.S. Route 53 also ends here. On the other side of the bridge, Trans-Canada Highway is an east–west route while Highway 71 is a north–south route. US 71's southern terminus is between Port Barre and Krotz Springs, Louisiana at an intersection with U.S. Route 190. For the entirety south of Kansas City, Missouri, US 71 runs parallel and concurrent with the existing and future Interstate 49. North of Kansas City, US 71 runs halfway between Interstate 29 and Interstate 35, which they split in the city at an interchange with Interstate 70.
U.S. Route 56 is an east–west United States highway that runs for approximately 640 miles (1,030 km) in the Midwestern United States. US 56's western terminus is at Interstate 25 Business, US 412 and New Mexico State Road 21 in Springer, New Mexico and the highway's eastern terminus is at US 71 in Kansas City, Missouri. Much of it follows the Santa Fe Trail.
U.S. Route 169 is a north-south U.S highway that currently runs for 966 miles (1,555 km) from the city of Virginia, Minnesota to Tulsa, Oklahoma at Memorial Drive.
Interstate 526 (I-526) is a 19.56-mile (31.48 km) auxiliary route of Interstate 26, providing a partial beltway around Charleston, South Carolina, in the United States. The route serves several purposes, firstly as a bypass for through traffic on US 17 to avoid downtown Charleston, and secondly for traffic on I-26 bound for the coastal towns located north and south of Charleston. The route is not yet complete, at the western terminus it is planned for the route to be extended an additional 10 miles. After the eastern terminus, the roadway continues as a short business route, known as Business Spur 526.
Interstate 635 (I-635) is a connector highway between Interstate 35 in Overland Park, Kansas and Interstate 29 in Kansas City, Missouri, approximately 12 miles long. It is mostly in the U.S. state of Kansas, servicing the city of Kansas City, Kansas, but extends into Kansas City, Missouri as well. The freeway's southern terminus is at a stack interchange with I-35. South of this, the mainline becomes an expressway carrying U.S. 69.
Interstate 470 (I-470) is a 16.72-mile (26.91 km) loop of the Interstate Highway System that serves to link southeast Kansas City to Independence via Lee's Summit in Jackson County, Missouri. The western terminus of the freeway is at the Grandview Triangle interchange with I-49, I-435, U.S. Route 50 (US 50), and US 71 while the northern terminus is a cloverleaf interchange with I-70. The freeway travels west to east through southern Kansas City, curving towards the north at the Lee's Summit Municipal Airport and becoming concurrent with Missouri Route 291 as the highway travels north towards Independence.
The Turner Diagonal is a short freeway in Kansas City, Kansas. It runs from Kansas Avenue northwest to State Avenue. It does not have a single numbered designation, though the entire route was formerly signed as US 40 west of I-70, K-132 east of I-70 and is currently signed as K-32 from Kansas Avenue to its first interchange.
K-12 was a state highway in the U.S. state of Kansas, created in the mid-1980s. Its alignment was changed during its existence.
K-158 was a 1.6-mile-long (2.6 km) Kansas highway that ran entirely through Mission, Kansas. K-158's western terminus was at U.S. Route 69 (US-69) in Mission and the eastern terminus was at K-58 in Roeland Park. It was turned back to the local authorities in 1979, and is now locally maintained Johnson Drive.
The 18th Street Expressway is a freeway in Kansas City, Kansas that runs from Interstate 35 north to Interstate 70/U.S. Route 24/U.S. Route 40. It carries the U.S. Route 69 designation its entire length.
K-58 is a 46.761-mile-long (75.255 km) east–west state highway in the U.S. state of Kansas. K-58's western terminus is at K-99 west of Madison. It runs east through Lamont and Gridley and after a short concurrency with US-75, it goes through LeRoy before ending at the eastern terminus at U.S. Route 169 (US-169) near Colony. It is one of the newer state highways in Kansas formed on September 20, 2004, when K-57 was truncated at K-4 in Dwight. The route changes were made because of K-57's long concurrencies with K-4, K-177, US-50 and K-99.
U.S. Route 169 (US-169) is a major north–south U.S. Highway that runs from US-64 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to US-53 near Virginia, Minnesota. In Kansas, the highway is a main north–south route that runs through the eastern end of the state from the Oklahoma border to Missouri border. Along the way US-169 intersects several major highways including US-400 by Cherryvale, US-54 by Iola, overlaps US-59 south of Garnett, overlaps I-35 from Olathe to Merriam, and in Kansas City begins an overlap with I-70, US-24 and US-40 which it follows into Missouri.
U.S. Route 69 (US-69) is a major north-south U.S. Highway that runs from Port Arthur, Texas to Albert Lea, Minnesota. In Kansas, the highway runs in the far eastern part of the state, usually within 5 miles of the Missouri state line. Most of the highway north of Fort Scott runs as a freeway.
Parallel Parkway is a roadway in Kansas City, Kansas. Its western terminus is at US 73 and K-7 near the Leavenworth County line and its eastern terminus is at North 5th Street in downtown Kansas City near the Missouri River.
State Avenue is a stretch of roadway in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Its western terminus is at both US 73 and K-7 in Bonner Springs, Kansas and its eastern terminus at North 4th Street in downtown Kansas City, Kansas. Its western terminus continues at both US 24 and US 40, turning south through Tonganoxie. Parallel Parkway runs parallel approximately eighth tenths of a mile to the north nearly the length of the road.
Business routes of Interstate 70 exist in three states, though historically they have existed in five. Utah and Missouri each have three existing Interstate 70 (I-70) business routes. Business routes in Kansas have either been proposed and rejected or decommissioned. 13 other I-70 business routes also exist in Colorado, and four others have also existed in the past, leading to a grand total of 17 within the Centennial State.
