Sherwin Marchel Vries (born 22 March 1980 in Walvis Bay, South Africa) is a sprinter who represents South Africa after switching from Namibia in 2003.
He finished fifth at the 2001 Summer Universiade and fourth at the 2006 African Championships in Athletics, both over 200 metres. He also reached the semi-final at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics.
At the 2001 Universiade he also competed for the Namibian 4 x 100 metres relay team who set a national record of 39.48 seconds.

Frank "Frankie" Fredericks is a former track and field athlete from Namibia. Running in the 100 metres and 200 metres, he won four silver medals at the Olympic Games, making him Namibia's only able-bodied Olympic medalist until Christine Mboma's silver medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. He also won gold medals at the World Championships, World Indoor Championships, All-Africa Games and Commonwealth Games. He is the world indoor record-holder for 200 metres, with a time of 19.92 seconds set in 1996.
Corné du Plessis is a South African sprinter. Together with Morne Nagel, Lee-Roy Newton and Mathew Quinn he won a silver medal in 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics. Their time of 38.47 seconds was a South African record. Earlier in the season he won the bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 2001 Summer Universiade.
Maurren Higa Maggi is a former Brazilian track and field athlete and Olympic gold medallist. She is the South American record holder in the 100 metres hurdles and long jump, with 12.71 seconds and 7.26 metres respectively. She also has a best of 14.53 metres in the triple jump – a former South American record. She is the first Brazilian woman to win an Olympic gold medal in an individual sport.
Ndiss Kaba Badji is a Senegalese athlete who competes in the long jump and triple jump. He is the Senegalese record holder for triple jump, with 17.07 metres achieved when he won the 2008 African Championships. He has a personal best long jump of 8.32 metres, achieved in October 2009 in Beirut, helping him to win the silver medal at the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie.

Kondwani Chiwina is a retired Malawi middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. Just as is common for most African athletes, he discovered his ability to run by chance. While at Mtendere Secondary School in Dedza district, Chiwina was scheduled to meet a relative some 11 km away from the school. Having no money to pay for his bus fare, Chiwina decided to run the distance and to his surprise, he covered the distance in 48 minutes despite lacking proper running shoes or prior training.
Ernest Ahwireng Obeng is a retired Ghanaian sprinter who specialized in the 100 metres. His personal best time was 10.21 seconds, achieved in August 1980 in Budapest. Ghana boycotted the Olympic Games that year. He represented Ghana up to 1986 and Great Britain from then until the end of his career.
René Kalmer is a South African runner who has competed over distances ranging from 800 metres to the marathon. She represented South Africa at the 2008 Summer Olympics, running in the 1500 metres. She then represented South Africa again at the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the marathon.

It is one of four regional championships organised by the CAA, alongside the North, East and West African Athletics Championships.
