Shia Islam in Australia

Shia Muslims represent a small percentage in Australia, with around 30,000 followers as of 2008, [1] living mainly in capital cities like Melbourne and Sydney. [2] [ failed verification ] They mainly attend events in mosques, like Muharram and Eid. [3] [4] Shia centres are active all over Australia. [5] Approximately less than 1 percent of Australia’s population are Shia. [6] There are mainly large Shia communities in Melbourne and Sydney compared to regional areas.
