Shawano County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2010 census, the population was 41,949. Its county seat is Shawano.

The town, founded in 1904, was named for Thomas Ainsworth, a civil engineer who supervised the construction of the Wolf River Dam in 1869 for the Keshena Improvement Company. The population was 469 at the 2010 census, down from 571 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Pearson is located within the town.

The Wolf River is a 225 mi (362 km) long tributary of the Fox River in northeastern Wisconsin in the Great Lakes region of the United States. The river is one of the two National Scenic Rivers in Wisconsin, along with the St. Croix River. The scenic portion is 24 miles (39 km) long. The river and its parent the Fox River and associated lakes are known for their sturgeon which spawn every spring upstream on the lower river until blocked by the Shawano Dam. The river flows through mostly undeveloped forestland southerly from central Forest County in the north to Lake Poygan in the south. The lake is part of the Winnebago Pool of lakes fed by both the Fox and Wolf Rivers. The Fox-Wolf basin is usually considered to be a single unified basin and the rivers themselves may be referred to as the Fox-Wolf River system.
The Bad River is a river flowing to Lake Superior in northern Wisconsin in the United States. It flows for 119.6 kilometres (74.3 mi) in Ashland County, draining an area of 1,061 square miles (2,750 km2) in portions of Ashland, Bayfield and Iron counties. The Bad River sloughs were designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance on February 2, 2012.

Lake Poygan, located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin near the village of Winneconne, is an expansive widening of the Wolf River totaling over 14,000 acres (57 km²). Lake Poygan is part of the Winnebago Pool or Wolf Chain, a series of interconnected lakes fed by both the Fox and Wolf rivers. The eastern third of the lake is often referred to as Lake Winneconne. In the Menominee language it is called Pawāhekaneh, "Wild Rice Threshing Lake", referring to the traditional importance of wild rice cultivation to the local economy.

State Trunk Highway 187 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs north–south in central Wisconsin from the intersection of WIS 54 near Shiocton to the junction of WIS 156 just west of Navarino. WIS 187 passes through sparsely populated, rural areas in the flat river valley of the Wolf River. The routing of the present WIS 187 has barely been changed since the introduction of the Wisconsin State Highway system in the 1920s.

Chief Oshkosh was the chief of the Menominee American Indians from 1827 until his death. He played a key role in treaty negotiations as the Menominee tried to protect their lands in Wisconsin from being granted to Oneida and other Indians from New York state and European-American pioneers. Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is named after him.
Samuel Fallows was an English American immigrant, minister, lecturer, and author. He was the 9th Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin and served as Presiding Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church for 30 years between 1877 and 1922. During the American Civil War he served as a chaplain and later as an officer in the Union Army, receiving an honorary brevet to Brigadier General after the war.
Navarino is an unincorporated census-designated place located in the town of Navarino, Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. Navarino is located on Wisconsin Highway 156 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-northwest of Nichols, in section 25 of the town. As of the 2010 census, its population is 177.

The Freimann Hotel Building (1896) is one of Green Bay's oldest continuing commercial establishments. It is located along the Fox River State Recreational Trail. The building is listed in the Wisconsin Historical Society Register. it is one of only a few remaining 19th century buildings in downtown Green Bay.
