Women's 10 metre air rifle was one of the fifteen shooting events at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Renata Mauer narrowly defeated Petra Horneber to win her first Olympic gold medal, as well as the first gold medal of the Atlanta games. Aleksandra Ivošev won the bronze medal; all three medalists finished within 0.4 points of each other. [1]

Du Li is a female Chinese sport shooter who was a gold medalist at the 2004 Olympics and the 2008 Olympics; she has also won titles at World Cup, World Championships and the Asian Games.
Albania first participated at the Summer Olympic Games in 1972. They missed the next four games, three of them for political reasons due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott, 1984 Summer Olympics boycott and 1988 boycotts, but returned for the Barcelona 1992 Summer Olympics. Albania normally competes in events that include swimming, athletics, weightlifting, shooting, and wrestling. The country has not yet won an Olympic medal. Along with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Andorra and Monaco, Albania is one of four current European participants that have never won an Olympic medal. They have been represented by the Albanian National Olympic Committee since 1972.
Kateřina Emmons, née Kůrková is a Czech sport shooter who won three Olympic medals. She competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, where she won a bronze medal, and the 2008 Summer Olympics, where she won her first gold medal in the women's 10 metre air rifle competition, as well as a silver medal in the 50 metre rifle three positions event.
Following a recent tradition, the women's 10 metre air rifle competition was the first medal event concluded at the 2000 Summer Olympics. It was held on 16 September, the day after the opening ceremony, with the 40-shot qualification round between 09:00 and 10:15 Australian Eastern Standard Time (UTC+10), and the final round of 10 additional shots at 11:00. Kang Cho-hyun equalled the Olympic record in the qualification round but lost her two-point pre-final lead to Nancy Johnson, who thus won the first Sydney gold medal for the United States.

The men's ISSF 50 meter pistol was one of the fifteen shooting events at the 1996 Summer Olympics, held on 23 July at the Wolf Creek Shooting Complex in Atlanta. There were 45 competitors from 28 nations. It was the first time decimals were used in the 50 metre pistol finals. Boris Kokorev set a new Olympic record after scoring 570 points in the qualification round and 96.4 in the final, winning the gold medal, while places 2 through 5 were occupied by Belarusian and Italian shooters. Russia, Belarus, and Italy all received their first medal in the free pistol. Silver medalist Igor Basinski was the ninth man to win multiple medals in the event.
Women's 50 metre rifle three positions was one of the fifteen shooting events at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Renata Mauer, who had won the air rifle competitions a few days earlier, set a new Olympic record of 589 points in the qualification round, but failed to win the double as she was surpassed in the final by Aleksandra Ivošev, winning on the final Olympic record score of 686.1, and Irina Gerasimenok.
Women's 10 metre air pistol was one of the fifteen shooting events at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Olga Klochneva won the event on a new Olympic record, and the defending champion, Marina Logvinenko, completed the Russian double by defeating Mariya Grozdeva in a shoot-off for the silver medal.
Jonathan Hammond is a British sport shooter, who has competed for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at the Olympics. He is currently the head coach of the rifle team at the West Virginia University.
Andrea Arsović is a Serbian sport shooter. She won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle at the 2015 European Games and is also a two-time European champion in the same discipline as well as a three-time champion in mixed team and once in women's team. Arsović won a gold medal at the 2009 and 2018 Mediterranean Games. She competed in the Women's 10 metre air rifle and women's 50 metre three positions events at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Suma Shirur is a former Indian shooter who competed in the 10 metre air rifle event. She is a joint world record holder in the event, having scored the maximum of 400 points in the qualification round, which she achieved at the 2004 Asian Shooting Championships in Kuala Lumpur. In 2003, she was awarded the Arjuna Award by the government of India. She is currently the High Performance Coach of the Indian Jr. Rifle Shooting Team. She is also the coach of 2020 Paralympics women's SH1 10m rifle gold and women's SH1 50m 3-position rifle bronze medalist Avani Lekhara On 30 November of 2022, she was conferred the Dronacharya Award by the 15th President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
Lesia Severynivna Leskiv is a Ukrainian sport shooter. She represented Ukraine in rifle shooting in the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000, and 2004, finishing within the top fifteen in the games. Leskiv also earned four medals at the World Championships, and five more, including three golds, at the European Championships, bringing them up to her remarkable career tally of nine. A full-fledged member of the Lvov Army Forces, Leskiv trained for the shooting club under her personal coach Vadym Vysochyn.
Ángel Ricardo Velarte Rosando is an Argentine sport shooter. He won a gold medal in air rifle shooting at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was selected to compete for Argentina in two editions of the Olympic Games. Having started shooting at the age of fifteen, Velarte served most of his sporting career as a full-time member of the La Rioja Shooting Federation in his native Buenos Aires under head coaches Julio Escalante and Ariel Martínez.
Amelia Rosa Fournel is an Argentine sport shooter. She produced a career tally of five medals, including four from the Pan American Games, and was selected to compete for Argentina in two editions of the Olympic Games. Having pursued the sport since the age of fifteen, Fournel trained full-time for the Santa Fe Shooting Federation in her native Santa Fe, under her personal coach and brother Claudio Fournel.
Éva Joó is a Hungarian sport shooter. She has competed for Hungary in rifle shooting at four Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic medal in 1996. Apart from her Olympic career, Joo has successfully produced a career tally of nineteen medals in a major international competition: a gold at the 1990 ISSF World Championships in Moscow, Soviet Union, a total of three at the ISSF World Cup final, a total of nine at various meets of the World Cup series, and a remainder of six under both junior and senior categories at the European Championships since her sporting debut in 1987.
Pushpamali Ramanayake is a Sri Lankan sport shooter. She has competed for Sri Lanka in rifle shooting at three Olympics, and has won a gold medal with fellow shooter Malini Wickramasinghe in the air rifle pairs at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Valérie Bellenoue is a French sport shooter. She has competed for France in rifle shooting at three Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic medal on her debut in 1996. Outside her Olympic career, Bellenoue has won a total of fourteen medals in a major international competition, spanning the World and European Championships and the ISSF World Cup series.
Seonaid McIntosh is a British sports shooter who became the World Champion at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 50m Prone Rifle event. In 2019 she became Britain's most successful female rifle shooter of all time, winning three World Cup medals. She also became the first British Woman to rank World #1 for the 50m Rifle Three Position event and became European Champion in the 300m Rifle Prone event with an equal World Record score.
Sabine Brogle is a German paralympic air rifle athlete. She competed at the in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Summer Paralympics. She won two silver medals and three bronze.
