The International Shooting Sport Federation recognizes several shooting events, some of which have Olympic status. They are divided into four disciplines: rifle, pistol, shotgun and running target.
Kimberly Susan Rhode is an American double trap and skeet shooter. A California native, she is a six-time Olympic medal winner, including three gold medals, and six-time national champion in double trap. She is the most successful female shooter at the Olympics as the only triple Olympic Champion and the only woman to have won two Olympic gold medals for Double Trap. She won a gold medal in skeet shooting at the 2012 Summer Olympics, equaling the world record of 99 out of 100 clays. Most recently, she won the bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics, making her the first Olympian to win a medal on five different continents, the first Summer Olympian to win an individual medal at six consecutive summer games, and the first woman to medal in six consecutive Olympics.
Rowing at the Summer Olympics has been part of the competition since its debut in the 1900 Summer Olympics. Rowing was on the program at the 1896 Summer Olympics but was cancelled due to bad weather. Only men were allowed to compete until the women's events were introduced at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal which gave national federations the incentive to support women's events and catalysed growth in women's rowing. Lightweight rowing events were introduced to the games in 1996. Qualifying for the rowing events is under the jurisdiction of the International Rowing Federation. FISA predates the modern Olympics and was the first international sport federation to join the modern Olympic movement.
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is the governing body of the Olympic Shooting events in rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines, and of several non-Olympic Shooting sport events. ISSF's activities include regulation of the sport, Olympic qualifications and organization of international competitions such as the ISSF World Cup Series, the ISSF World Cup Finals, the ISSF Separate World Championship in Shotgun events and the ISSF World Championship in all events.
The women's double trap competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on August 18 at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. This was the last Olympic competition in the event, before being removed from the program shortly after the Games.
Russell Andrew Mark, (born 25 February 1964 in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria is an Olympic Champion Shooter. He won the Olympic gold medal in double trap at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He also won an Olympic silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He has competed at six Olympic Games: 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012. The only Australian Summer Olympian to compete in more is Andrew Hoy, who competed in seven Olympiads.
The men's double trap event at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 12 at the Beijing Shooting Range Clay Target Field. Walton Eller, the gold medal winner in this event, broke two Olympic records for both the qualification and final rounds.
Zuzana Rehák-Štefečeková is a female Slovak sports shooter. She won the silver medal in the Women's Trap event at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics.
The men's trap shooting competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics was held on 16 and 17 September. By defending his title from Atlanta, Michael Diamond won the host country's only gold medal in the shooting competitions.
The men's double trap competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics was held on 20 September. Home shooter Russell Mark set a new Olympic record in the qualification round and was close to defending his inaugural double trap title from Atlanta, but lost the gold medal shoot-off to Richard Faulds. Fehaid Al Deehani won the first Olympic medal ever for Kuwait.
Both stages of the women's 25 metre pistol competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics were held on 22 September, and the final was fired at 14:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (UTC+10). After having lost only one point in the precision stage, Tao Luna set a new Olympic record of 590 points in the qualification round, but lost the final to Mariya Grozdeva, who won on a new Olympic final record of 690.3.
Women's double trap shooting made its first appearance at the 1996 Summer Olympics, with Kim Rhode becoming the inaugural champion. Susanne Kiermayer defeated Deserie Huddleston in the silver medal shoot-off.
Trap was one of the thirteen shooting events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. It was the last Olympic trap competition open to both men and women. The competition consisted of a qualification round of 150 targets, a semifinal of 50 targets for the top 24 competitors, and a final of 25 targets for the top six. Petr Hrdlička and Kazumi Watanabe both hit 219 of the 225 targets, with Hrdlicka winning the gold medal shoot-off. One hit behind, another shoot-off determined the bronze medalist, with Marco Venturini defeating Jörg Damme.
Deborah Gelisio is a former Italian sport shooter who won a silver medal in Double trap at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
Yukie Nakayama is a female Japanese trap shooter, who competed at three Olympic games and won the silver medal at the 2013 ISSF World Championships. Nakayama made her official Olympic debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she finished thirteenth in the women's double trap, with a score of 94 points, tying her position with Finland's Pia Julin.
Susanne Kiermayer is a retired German sport shooter. Kiermayer had won a total of nine medals for both trap and double trap shooting at the ISSF World Cup series. She also captured a silver medal in the same discipline at the 1998 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Barcelona, Spain, striking a total of 91 clay pigeons. Kiermayer is currently a vice-president of the German Shooting Federation.
Yelena Anatolyevna Tkach is a Russian sport shooter. Representing the former Soviet Union, Tkach won a silver medal in the women's double trap at the 1991 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Perth, Australia, with a total score of 121 clay pigeons. She also defeated Lithuania's Daina Gudzinevičiūtė by one point for the gold medal in the women's trap at the 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Lahti, Finland, accumulating a score of 93 targets. Tkach is also a member of the shooting team for Dynamo Voronezh, and is coached and trained by her teammate and two-time Olympian Maxim Kosarev.
Lin Yi-chun is a Taiwanese sport shooter. She won two medals, gold and silver, in the women's double trap, at the 2001 and 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Cairo, Egypt and Lahti, Finland, respectively. She also captured a bronze medal in the women's trap at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, accumulating a score of 80 clay pigeons and a bonus of 1 target from a shoot-off.
Shooting competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo are scheduled to take place from 25 July to 2 August at the Asaka Shooting Range. Unlike in 2016, the number of shooters competing across fifteen different events at these Games has been reduced from 390 to 360, with an equal distribution between men and women. Furthermore, several significant changes were instituted in the Olympic shooting program, including the substitution of three male-only events, with the mixed team competitions. All dates referenced will be rescheduled due to postponement of Olympics until 2021.
Roberta Pelosi is an Italian sport shooter. She has been selected to compete for Italy at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and has established a career tally of eighteen medals in a major international competition, including a world-record breaking gold at the 1998 ISSF World Cup meet in Cairo, Egypt and a silver in women's trap at the 2003 World Shotgun Championships in Nicosia, Cyprus. Pelosi is a member of Valle Aniene Target Shooting Club, and a resident athlete of the Italian Clay Shooting Federation, where she trains under head coach and 1996 Olympic double trap medalist Albano Pera.
