The women's 1000 metres competition in short track speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 9 February (heats) and 11 February (finals), at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing. [1] Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands won the gold medal and thereby successfully defended her 2018 title. In the semifinal, Schulting set the new world record. Choi Min-jeong won the silver medal, and Hanne Desmet of Belgium the bronze. Desmet's medal was the first ever Belgian medal in short track speed skating and only the seventh Belgian medal at the Winter Olympics.
The 2018 silver medalist, Kim Boutin, and the bronze medalist, Arianna Fontana, qualified as well. Schulting was the 2021 World Short Track Speed Skating champion at all distances, including 1500 m. Desmet and Courtney Sarault were the silver and bronze medalists, respectively. Many top athletes did not participate in the championship, however. Schulting was also leading the 2021–22 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup at the 1000 m distance with four races completed before the Olympics, followed by Kristen Santos and Choi Min-jeong.
Countries were assigned quotas based on their performance during the 2021–22 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup, with the top 32 athletes (maximum of three per country qualifying quotas. If a NOC declined a quota spot, it was distributed to the next available athlete, only if the maximum quota of 56 athletes per gender was not surpassed. [2]

Choi Min-jeong is a South Korean short track speed skater. She is a three-time Olympic Champion, a four-time World Champion, Four Continents Champion (2020), and the current world record holder for 1500m. Along with Chun Lee-kyung and Jin Sun-yu, Choi is widely regarded as one of the best female Korean short track speed skaters of all time.
The Netherlands competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, between 9 and 25 February 2018. Speed skater Jan Smeekens was appointed as flag bearer for the opening ceremony, which was attended by King Willem Alexander, Queen Máxima and Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who also observed the sporting events that featured Dutch competitors.

The men's 500 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 12 February, at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing. The event was won by three Asians, Gao Tingyu of China, the 2018 bronze medalist, who set a new Olympic record, Cha Min-kyu of South Korea, replicating his 2018 success, and Wataru Morishige of Japan, his first Olympic medal.

Erin Jackson of the United States became the Olympic champion, winning her first Olympic medal. She was also the first female Black athlete to medal in speed skating. Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands defended his 2018 title and became again the Olympic champion. Thomas Krol, also of the Netherlands, won the silver medal. Kim Min-seok of South Korea won bronze.

The men's team pursuit competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 13 February (semifinals) and 15 February (final), at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing. Hallgeir Engebråten, Peder Kongshaug and Sverre Lunde Pedersen, representing Norway, won the event. Norway defended their 2018 title, but Pedersen was the only athlete returning to the podium. Daniil Aldoshkin, Sergey Trofimov and Ruslan Zakharov, representing the Russian Olympic committee, won the silver medal, the first time a Russian team medaled in the event. Zakharov, formerly a short track speed skater and the 2014 Olympic champion in the team relay, became the second man, after Eric Flaim, to medal at the Olympics in both speed skating and short track speed skating. Ethan Cepuran, Casey Dawson, Emery Lehman and Joey Mantia of the United States won bronze.

The women's 3000 metre relay competition in short track speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 9 February (semifinals) and 13 February (finals), at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing. The event was won by Suzanne Schulting, Selma Poutsma, Xandra Velzeboer, and Yara van Kerkhof, representing the Netherlands. They set a new Olympic record in Final A. It was the first time a European team won the event. South Korea won silver, and China bronze.
