Shweta Chaudhry (born 3 July 1986) is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the 10 metre air pistol and 25 metre sports pistol events. [2] [3] [4]
In 2014, at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Chaudhary won the bronze medal in the women's air pistol event, having scored 176.4 points in the final, which was the first medal won by India in the games. [5] [6]
In 2009, at 2009 Asian Air Gun Championships in Doha, Chaudhary won a bronze medal in air pistol event having 381 points in the final. [7]
Chaudhary has been a practicing shooter since 1997 when she was in 5th standard. Within a year, she made it to the senior national team. In 2000, at the age of 14, she became the senior national champion with a record breaking results.[ citation needed ] She played for Haryana state until she was supported by ONGC in 2006. Chaudhary, along with Sheila Kanungo, won a silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester.
Chaudhary's other notable achievements include winning a silver medal (team) at the 15th Asian Games in 2006. She also won an individual bronze medal at the Asian Games held at Incheon in 2014. [8] She won an individual silver medal at the 8th Asian Airgun Shooting Championship in New Delhi, India in September 2015.
Chaudhary is six-time national champion in air pistol and has accumulated about 117 national and 43 international medals, including 3 gold medals at the SAF Games 2004 in Pakistan, 3 gold medals at the 8th Commonwealth Shooting championship at New Delhi in 2010, where she won an individual gold medal, an individual badge medal, and a and pair event with Pushpanjali Rana. She won 2 gold medals (individual and team) at the 12th SAF Games 2016 in Guwahati, India. She has been supported by Olympic Gold Quest.
In 2004, the government of Haryana accredited Chaudhary with the Bhim Award for excellence in pistol shooting.[ citation needed ]
Samaresh Jung is an Indian sport shooter. He is an air pistol specialist. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, he won two gold medals, in the men's free pistol pairs and in the open event of 25 m standard pistol pairs, both in partnership with Jaspal Rana. He contested in the 10 m air pistol and 50 m pistol events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but failed to reach the finals in both events.
Honorary Captain Vijay Kumar Sharma, AVSM, SM is an Indian sport shooter. He won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Kumar hails from Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is a retired Subedar Major in the Dogra Regiment Indian Army, who was later promoted to Honorary Captain Rank. Vijay Kumar is supported by the Olympic Gold Quest initiative. He is the only Indian to have won a medal at 25m rapid Fire Pistol. He has been posted at Indian Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) Mhow since 2003 where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov.
Master Chief Petty Officer Sanjeev Rajput is an Arjuna Awardee Indian sport shooter from Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. He was a retired Junior Commissioned Officer in Indian Navy.
Anisa Sayyed is an Indian female pistol shooter who won two gold medals in 2010 Commonwealth Games. She also won a gold medal at the SAF games in 2006. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she won a silver in the 25m event. Besides, she won a bronze in the 2014's Asian Games and silver in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the same year. She set a new national record by winning a gold medal in women's 25m air pistol at the National Shooting Championship Competition in 2017.
Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat is a female athlete from India who competes in the 25 metre pistol shooting event. She won her first gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. She is the first woman to win a gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games for India – she won the gold at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in the women's 25 metre pistol event. She won two gold medals in 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the first of the two golds in coming in the 25 metre pistol pair event with Anisa Sayyed. She had previously won gold in the 25 metre pistol event at the 2008 Youth Commonwealth Games, which were held in India.
Malaika Goel is an Indian shooter. She won the silver medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the youngest medallist.
Apurvi Singh Chandela is an Indian Shooting player who competes in the 10 metre air rifle event. She won the gold medal in the 2019 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. She is a recipient of Arjuna award.
Jitu Rai is an Indian Army Subedar Major who competes in the 10 metre air pistol and 50 metre pistol events. The Government of India announced the Khel Ratna Award for him in 2016. In 2020, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India.
Subedar Chain Singh is an Indian sport shooter and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army, supported by OGQ. He won the Bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event. He won an individual Gold medal in the 7th Asian Airgun championship Kuwait. He won six Gold medals, three in individual events and three in team events, in the 2016 South Asian Games.
Manu Bhaker Born:-18 February 2002 in a Jat family of Bhaker gotra in Goria village,Jhajjar Haryana is an Indian Olympian who competes at shooting, supported by OGQ. She represented India at the 2018 ISSF World Cup and won two gold medals. She is the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup. She won the gold medal in the women's 10 m air pistol event at 2018 Commonwealth Games just at the age of 16 in her maiden Commonwealth Games appearance. She won the team gold for India in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the Asian Games, along with Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan.
Anish Bhanwala born:-26 September 2002 in a Jat family of Bhanwala gotra in village Kashandi Sonipat Haryana is an Indian pistol shooter, supported by OGQ. He is from Karnal Haryana and competes in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol, 25 meter pistol, and 25 meter standard pistol events. Anish joined the Indian Shooting Team in 2017. He represented India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2018 Asian Games, ISSF Junior World Championship 2017 (Suhl), Commonwealth Shooting Championships 2017 (Brisbane), World Shooting Championships 2018 and numerous ISSF Senior and Junior World Cups and South Asian Games, Kathmandu.
Kiran Bishnoi, also known as Kiran Godara, is a freestyle wrestler from India. She was a bronze medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She has also been gold medallist at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in 2017. She won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games.
Saurabh Chaudhary is an Indian sport shooter. He won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in 10 m Air Pistol. He was the youngest Indian gold medalist at the Asian Games. He had earlier won gold medals and set a new junior world record in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany. He is the only Indian shooter to win a gold medal in ISSF World Championship, ISSF World Cup, Youth Olympic Games, Asian Games and Asian Air Gun Championship. He broke his own world record with a score of 245.5 and claimed gold in Junior Men 10m Air Pistol at 2018 World Championship in Changwon, Korea.
Esha Singh is an Indian amateur shooter. She became the National Champion in the 10m Air Pistol category in 2018 at the age of 13 and created history. At the age of 18 she again created history by winning 4 medals at the 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou 2022. She was also conferred the Arjun Award for 2023. She clinched an Olympic quota berth in the 10m Air Pistol category for the Paris Olympic Games at the Asian Qualifier at Jakarta on 8 January 2024.
Singhraj Adhana, known mononymously as Singhraj, is an Indian paralympian and shooter. He won a silver medal in the Mixed 50m pistol SH1 and a bronze medal in the Men's P1 10 metre air pistol SH1 at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He is currently supported by OGQ.
