Shylan Saliendrakumar (born 29 March 1975), known by his pen name Shylan, is a Malayalam language poet, film critic, travelogue writer and columnist from Malappuram, Kerala, India. [1] Mostly known for his poems, several poetry collections by Shylan have been published so far. [2] Shylan is also known as a film critic, who has been reviewing movies for numerous online publications. [3] [4]

Life and career

Shylan was born on 29 March 1975 in Malappuram, Kerala. He completed his college from NSS College, Manjeri. [5] Shylan started writing in the leading periodicals in Malayalam in the early 2000's. [6] His first book titled Nishkasithante Easter was published in 2003. Shylan was noticed for bringing new styles and vocabularies in Malayalam poems. [7] Vettaikkaran, which is a collection of poems written by Shylan in 2017 was critically acclaimed. [8] In 2022, 'Rashtramee Mamsa', another collection of poems by Shylan was published. [9] This was critically acclaimed for highlighting the contemporary issues in India. [10] [11] The same year, Shylan's first travelogue titled as Nooru Nooru Yatragal was published at the Sharjah International book festival. [12] [13] [14]

Edasseri Award is an Indian literary award given to outstanding literary works produced in Malayalam language. The award was instituted in 1982 by Edasseri Smaraka Samithi in memory of Malayalam poet Edasseri Govindan Nair. Each year a separate branch of literature, like poetry, novel, short-story etc., is considered for the award. A short-list is prepared after a preliminary scrutiny of the manuscripts and/or printed books received for consideration, and a three-member jury decides the work for award out of this short-listed selection.

Cherukad Award is an annual award given for literary works in Malayalam. The award was instituted in 1978 by Cherukad Smaraka Trust at Perinthalmanna, Kerala, India. It is named after Malayalam playwright, poet, novelist, and political activist Cherukad Govinda Pisharodi. The award comprises ₹25,000 and a citation.

Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer was one of the modern triumvirate poets of Malayalam poetry. There are two major annual literary awards instituted in his memory, both known by the name Ulloor Award.

The P. Kesavadev Literary Award is an Indian literary award presented annually by P. Kesavadev Trust to writers in Malayalam literature. The award is named after renowned Malayalam writer P. Kesavadev.

C. R. Rajagopalan was an Indian writer, teacher and environmental activist from Kerala. Rajagopalan worked for the monitoring and preservation of folklore and tribal culture. He has written several books on heritage and folklore studies. He received awards from Kerala Folklore Academy and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.

K. B. Sreedevi was an Indian writer, who wrote in Malayalam, under the genre of children's literature. She received several awards including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions and the Kerala State Film Award for Story.

Rajesh Chithira is an Indian poet, short story writer and novelist who writes in Malayalam language. Born in Pathanamthitta, in the south Indian state of Kerala, he has published anthologies containing poems and short stories such as Unmathathakalude Crash Landingukal, Tequila, Ulipechu and Jigsaw Puzzle and a children's novel, Aadi and Athma. K. P. Sankaran is a Malayalam–language literary critic from Kerala, India. Born on 15 May 1939 in Painkulam in Trichur district of the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin, he was a teacher at Changanacherry S.B. College, Trichur Kerala Varma College and Mysore Regional Institute of Education from where he retired in 2001. He resides with his wife Kamala Devi in Kottapparambu near Chelavoor, Calicut since 2019. He has authored around 30 books.

Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award is a literary award instituted by UAE-based Abu Dhabi Sakthi Theatres and awarded to writers in Malayalam literature. Instituted in 1987, it is given in various categories such as novel, story, poetry, drama, literary criticism, scholarly literature and children's literature. The award for literary criticism is named Sakthi Thayat Award, the award instituted for overall contributions is named T. K. Ramakrishnan Award, and the award for other categories of literature is named Sakthi Erumeli Award.

S Rahul is a poet and writer in Malayalam. His poems and articles have been published in many periodicals. He has also translated many poems and literary works. He is an active social activist and orator. He is currently the District Secretary of cultural organization Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham. He was the Executive Editor of Festival Handbook and Daily Bulletin at International Film Festival of Kerala(IFFK).

P. Madhavan Pillai was a polyglot, writer and translator from Kerala, India. He translated about 25 books from other languages into Malayalam, among them, the main work is 'Yayati'. He also translated many noted works from Malayalam to Hindi. He received many awards including the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize in 1994 and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
