Sidi M'Cid Bridge is a 164 m long suspension bridge across the Rhumel River in Constantine, Algeria. It was opened to traffic in April 1912 and until 1929 was the highest bridge in the world at 175 m. The bridge was designed by French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin and links the Casbah to Sidi M'Cid hill. The bridge underwent restoration in 2000 when 12 of its cables were replaced by the Algerian company SAPTA. [3] [4]
Constantine was an important city of 50,000 people when Émile Morinaud took over as the mayor and member of parliament in 1901. During his time in power till 1934, he went about modernizing the city. The Sidi M'Cid bridge, the Sidi Rached bridge and many other prominent buildings were constructed in this period. The bridge remained the highest bridge in the world till the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado opened in November 1929. [5] [6]
The Monument of the Dead is on one side of the bridge on the Sidi M'Cid hill. The monument is a replica of the Arch of Trajan in Timgad and commemorates the people of Constantine who laid down their lives fighting for France in the First World War. There is a natural bridge below the Sidi M'Cid bridge which blocks the view of the river from the bridge. [7]
Constantine, also spelled Qacentina or Kasantina, is the capital of Constantine Province in northeastern Algeria. During Roman times it was called Cirta and was renamed "Constantina" in honor of emperor Constantine the Great. It was the capital of the French department of Constantine until 1962. Located somewhat inland, Constantine is about 80 kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, on the banks of the Rhumel River.

Ferdinand Joseph Arnodin was a French engineer and industrialist born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, Rhône who died in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire in Loiret. Specialising in cableway transporters, he is regarded as the inventor of the transporter bridge, having been the first to patent the idea in 1887. However, the first such bridge was in fact designed by Alberto Palacio, with Arnodin's help.

Sfalassà Viaduct is a 254-metre-high (833 ft) viaduct near Bagnara Calabra, Calabria, Italy. The bridge is located on Autostrada A2 Salerno-Reggio Calabria Motorway and has a main span of 376 metres. It is the highest and longest span frame bridge in the world and as of 2019 it is among the 50 highest bridges of any type. It is the second highest bridge in Italy after the Italia Viaduct. With a length of 1119m, the viaduct has a futuristic design, which modernized the urban configuration of the city.
The Sidi Rached Viaduct, The Sidi Rached bridge is a road viaduct that crosses the Rhummel gorges and connects the Coudiat district to Constantine Train station. It was built in Constantine in French Algeria, between 1908 and 1912, by the engineer Aubin Eyraud, with the help of Paul Séjourné who designed the hangers and finished the construction. It was the tallest Concrete bridge in the world when it was built until.

Most of the people in Algeria are the followers and murids of Sufism. Sufism has shaped Algerian society and politics for much of the country's history. Today, very few are aware of this legacy. Might the Sufis now provide an important contribution to the stability of the country.
Bab El Kantra Bridge one of 8 famous high-level bridges that cross the Rhumel River gorge in Constantine, Algeria, the Kantara bridge is the oldest and has taken several different forms over the years from a 1792 Ottoman style multi-arch bridge to an 1863 French iron arch to its current form as a concrete arch bridge. Like the higher Sidi M'Cid Bridge, there is a unique, natural “bridge” almost directly under the span that blocks much of the river from view. Partial remains of the earlier stone bridges can still be seen on top of this natural bridge.
