Sidney Gish (born March 18, 1997) [2] is an American singer-songwriter. [3] She has released two albums, Ed Buys Houses and No Dogs Allowed.

Career

Gish started her career by uploading music on Bandcamp. Her first release was "don't call on me" in 2015, followed by "dummy parade" in 2016. [1] She also released a Christmas EP, "Merry Crisis". [3]

Gish's first album, Ed Buys Houses, was self-released on Bandcamp in December 2016. [4] Her second album, No Dogs Allowed, was self-released on December 31, 2017. [5] It received a 7.7 rating on Pitchfork [6] and won Album of the Year at the 2018 Boston Music Awards. [7]

Following the moderate internet success of No Dogs Allowed, Gish briefly toured with singer-songwriter Mitski in 2018. [3] In March 2019, she performed at South by Southwest and was featured on NPR Music's Austin 100. [8] She was listed as one of Stereogum's Best New Artists of 2018. [9] In 2019, she released a cover of "Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne as part of a split single in Cavetown's Animal Kingdom series. [10]

In 2023, Gish released two new songs, "Filming School" and "MFSOTSOTR", through the Sub Pop Singles Club. [11] The same year, she toured with The Beths in North America. [12] [13] She also went on to tour with Jeff Rosenstock later in the fall of 2023. [14]

Personal life

Gish grew up in New Jersey. [1] Gish attended Northeastern University, where she studied the music industry. [1] For one semester, she was an intern in the A&R department of Island Records. [3] She graduated in 2020. [15]

Be the Cowboy is the fifth studio album by American indie rock musician Mitski, released on August 17, 2018, through Dead Oceans. Produced by longtime collaborator Patrick Hyland, the album widens Mitski's palette with a return to the piano featured on her first two records alongside synthesizers, horns and the guitar that became her signature instrument. Upon its release, Be the Cowboy received widespread acclaim from music critics, who later ranked it among the best albums of 2018.
