Sidney Leviss (July 21,1917 - September 7,2007) was a Democratic [1] politician and judge from Queens,New York City.
Leviss was born in Flushing,New York. He attended New York University and received a degree from the New York University School of Law in June 1941. Leviss was admitted to the New York State Bar in January 1942. The next day he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps to fight in World War II. [2] [3]
After the war he served as an assistant district attorney under T. Vincent Quinn,and later as deputy Queens borough president under Mario J. Cariello. [3] He succeeded his boss and was elected Queens borough president in 1969. Leviss left the office mid-term on September 17,1971 [4] to take a seat on the New York Supreme Court. He retired from the bench at the age of 76,but was subsequently named a judicial hearing officer,a position he held until his death. [3]
Leviss' wife Marion died in 2006. He was survived by two daughters,Jeanne and Nancy. [3]

Anthony Avella Jr. is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party,he represented the New York State Senate's 11th district in northeast Queens from 2011 to 2019. The district included the mostly affluent neighborhoods of College Point,Whitestone,Bayside,Little Neck,Douglaston,Floral Park,Beechhurst,Malba and Auburndale. Avella also served as a member of the New York City Council from 2002 to 2009,representing some of the same Queens neighborhoods in District 19. Avella is a former member of the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC),a group of Democratic state senators who allied themselves with Senate Republicans. He was also a losing candidate in the 2009 New York City mayoral election,the 2013 Queens Borough President election,and the 2017 New York City mayoral election.

The Queens Memory Project is a community archiving program which aims to record and preserve contemporary history across the New York City borough of Queens. Community archives are created in response to needs defined by the members of a community,who may also exert control over how materials are used. The project is a collaborative effort between Queens College,City University of New York and Queens Public Library that was initially funded in 2010 through a grant from the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO). Materials in the archive are made accessible to the public through a website which contains oral history interviews and photographs documenting the lives of Queens residents. The stories and images are presented alongside digitized historical photographs,maps,news clippings and other archival records. The goal of the project is to allow visitors to the site to view otherwise scattered archival materials and personal stories in a searchable database of collective memory representing the borough of Queens.
Melinda R. Katz is an American attorney and politician from New York City,serving as District Attorney of Queens since January 1,2020. A Democrat,she previously served as the Queens Borough President. Katz was also a New York City Councilwoman from 2002 to 2009. She had previously run for City Comptroller in 2009. In June 2019,Katz won the Democratic nomination for Queens County's District Attorney,and won the general election in November 2019.
